Trying to settle this argument on another forum. Slipknot's first release. Is it a demo or should it be considered an album? I know a lot of you won't care or couldn't give a fuck, which is fine, but if you don't want to vote, don't know, or don't care, I'm not putting in a fuckabout option this time. Some of you must have an opinion though. I'm sticking with demo.

It's an album. They referred to it as such in interviews when they came to prominence with the release of their self-titled album. Referring to it as a demo is pure revisionism.

It's also crap, TBH.

I've heard it. and yes, it's shit. As is everything that followed.

I've always heard it referred to as a demo, even from when they first came out.

I was definitely under the impression that it was a demo.

Question - was it ever officially released at the time? I remember the self-titled being described as their debut. Was it self-released?

The problem with viewing it as a demo is as follows: it runs for 50 minutes and cost 40,000 to produce.

What kind of a demo runs that long and costs that much?

They only printed up 1000 copies, which is a demo run, and perhaps leads one to believe that it might have been a promotional tool for labels, but a demo demo? That's really stretching it.
