 Blaze vs Bruce
Not in Maiden, but their music outside of Harris' influence.
I've not heard much of Blaze's stuff post-Maiden, but I really liked Wolfsbane, and the last album they did was fantastic and not quite as silly as the early stuff.
Bruce was a bit of a sell out going back to metal, but Chemical Wedding as we have discussed before is ace. I still think Skunkworks was good too.

 Re: Blaze vs Bruce
Samson for me predictably enough.
That said, Chemical Wedding is a 5 fist album.
Love Wolfsbane, but they never made that one classic album, they were too patchy, and Blazes solo stuff has its moments, but I think he suits hard rock more than full on metal.

 Re: Blaze vs Bruce
The Samson stuff I've heard I really enjoyed. I had a metal compilation vinyl from about '81 that had Earth Mother on it, and there's the one they did the silly video for, but that's kind of all I know I think. Did they do a full album?

 Re: Blaze vs Bruce
I've not really heard Samson or Wolfsbane, but I went for Dickinson's solo material regardless because Accident of birth and Chemical Wedding are both PHENOMENALLY good records - both 5 fists [by a long long way] and better than about half of Maiden's output.
Since both records feature the Smith/Dickinson writing team that's not too surprising. Roy Z's production job on those albums is top notch too, that is how a modern metal production should sound.

Samson, kind of by default. Head on is the only album I have from any in the poll.

Chemical Wedding and Accident of Birth are two of the greatest metal albums of the 90s, if not of the last 20 years - get them ASAP

AOB is nowhere near 5 fists, but it has a few great songs on it.

Roy Z wrote most of Accident and Chemical. He's the reason Bruce went metal again, as he wanted to work on Z's songs. I'd give Accident 4 fists, and Chemical 5 personally, but both are fantastic.

Bruce solo definitely, Chemical Wedding and Accident of Birth are excellent.

 Re: Blaze vs Bruce
Mmmm-tricky one.The Samson albums with Bruce(Bruce) were bloody good.Brucie's solo albums range from cack(Tattooed Millionaire)to amazing(A.O.B and Chemical Wedding),same with Blaze really-the last one(King Of Metal) was an abortion but the two before that were great.Wolfsbane are shit on record but were good live when i saw them.Very tricky indeed. Bruce solo....just-although if this poll was done before King Of Metal had come out i may have sided with Blaze.

 Re: Blaze vs Bruce
"The King Of Metal" for that Dimebag song makes me cringe. I think Blaze was just having mental problems at the time. The lyrics for that one are brutal.
Tattooed Millionaire is a decent 3 fists. The title track and Born in '58 are quality.

Tattooed Millionaire is a decent 3 fists. The title track and Born in '58 are quality. Blaze was definitely struggling with depression among other things at that time.I'm hoping it was just a blip-he was certainly enjoying himself with Wolfsbane at Bloodstock a few weeks back so hopefully he is back on track. I was probably a bit harsh on Tattooed Millionaire but that(and Balls To Picasso)are really 2 fist albums for me.

 Re: Blaze vs Bruce
Samson. I've heard bits & pieces of Wolfsbane (and saw them live, supporting Maiden in 1990) and they were OK. Haven't heard any Blaze solo stuff, the Bruce solo stuff I have heard didn't do anything for me (Tattooed Millionaire (1/5) & The Chemical Wedding (2/5)) but anything I've heard by Samson was pretty good.
