Ok - so every time I voice the opinion that Black Sabbath's first album with RJD is better than Ozzy's debut I get laughed at....will the trend continue?

"Heaven & Hell" for mine but it's very close. They're both great records.

I went for Heaven and Hell because it is the better studio album IMO.

I love Blizzard...., and Rhoads is one of my favourite guitarists, but IMO "Tribute to Randy Rhoads" is the best version of "Blizzard..." and the best thing Ozzy has put his own name to.

agreed....and I think Blizzard edges out Daiary...although S.A.T.O. is perhaps my favourite track from both albums...

Same here. Both were raging fun as a teen.

I've never been able to choose between them.

I was about 16 when both albums were released and Blizzard... introduced the world to Randy, who moved guitar playing on from where Eddie Van Halen had taken it a few years before, but when Sabbath (H&H) released the first single Neon Knights, it was the most primal Sabbath had sounded in many, many years.

I remember the letters page in Sounds was full of Ozzy vs Ronnie arguments that lasted weeks/months. We are able to appreciate both now, but at the time it was either/or.

I never came down on one side or the other.

This. Had it been between Dio era Sab's and Diary Of A Madman the choice would be tougher for me, but I'll go for H&H here.

Me either, although admittedly, with the original Sabbath being my first proper heavy band, they will always have a place in my heart above most other bands, but I suppose I was lucky enough to be discovering all that stuff - the various Sabbath lineups, Rainbow, Dio and Ozzy's solo records - roughly around the same time.

Blizzard Of Ozz, of course. Not only is Heaven And Hell literally laughably shit, it's not a Black Sabbath album.

They are both really good albums, but my vote is going to H+H.

I've spent far more time listening to H+H than B.O.O over the years.

6 of one and half a dozen of the other. But I'll say Blizzard principally because it was the one I was into at the time. Plus it's way more edgy and fired up. Agree that the Randy Rhoads tribute versions are definitive.

This, Randy's playing is fantastic but it can't compete with Dio's singing and Tony's riffs.

Heaven and Hell. Randy Rhoades was a great guitarist and all that, but he was no Tony Iommi. The power of the riff compels me.

Personally 'Heaven & Hell'. Makes me want to jump up on the dining table, hold a fist in the air, and sing with much gusto to the Gods.

Though I can understand if someone wanted to go with 'Blizzard...' It does indeed have a right to classic status as well, but this is just personal preference.

'Neon Knights', 'Children of the Sea', 'Lady Evil', 'Heaven & Hell'! Oh my, what a great A side. 'Die Young' and 'Lonely Is the Word' ain't too shabby either.

Blizzard of Ozz, one of the first metal album I ever bought. Absolute classic.
