Wait, you don't think they peaked with The Blackening? So, did they peak with Burn My Eyes...?

Oh, god, Peggy Zina, holy shit that stuff is unbearable.

And I am going overboard praising The Legacy, Low and The Gathering because YOU HEARTLESS, COLD, BARBARIC, ENGLISH PEOPLE are showing them disrespect!

Well Testament are hardly a warm sounding band now, are they? They sound pretty clinical bro! ;)

Anglophones are pretty bad though. I didn't think I was much like them due to my Greek background until I lived in Greece and realized I wasn't quite as 'Greek' as I originally thought ;)

Yes, Burn My Eyes was their peak in my view, but I get why M.H fans, particularly younger ones (i.e under 30) would prefer The Blackening to Burn My Eyes. Until The Blackening was released there was really no question that Burn My Eyes was their peak.

What sound though? They have SUCH VARIETY I can't make up my mind! The Gathering's production is warm and precious as Snowhite's vagina (Disney 40s edition), you know not what you're talking about! Clinical! Huh!

Greek background eh? I guess that's why half the time you sound rational! Where from exactly?

Well, the best two MH are Burn My Eyes and The Blackening, so we're not that apart. I am 38 by the way...

^^Their 80's stuff sounds a bit rigid to my ears, but it's still listenable.

Where in Greece? Ithaki mostly. I was born in Australia though.

The Blackening was shit. Dull, overlong bollocks.

Burn My Eyes starts well, but by the end....

I'd take Through the Ashes of Empires over either of them, though mainly for the thrash riff in Imperium.

Rigid, that's a good word. The polka drum thing is too 'rigid'.

What is it about Testament? I feel like I ought to like them a lot more than I do, but they just don't excite me, even though I will readily admit that they are way more talented than bands like Laaz Rockit, who I will happily listen to.

Maybe, it's partly because my mate (who doesn't like thrash) but does like Metallica and Testament likes them? But even then, I'd bought at least one of their albums and seen them live before I even met him, so it can't be as simple as that.

I think there's something inherently 'safe' about Testament. I can't put my finger on it, it's like they were a major label thrash band even before they were on a major label. Safe. Not too fast, not too heavy. Sure The Legacy doesn't suffer so much from that, but after that...

I saw them aged 17, probably the first thrash band I saw in fact... let me think. Nah, I'd already seen Slayer, Anthrax and Metallica. But even so, I was young and a lot easier to impress than I am now.

I really don't know what it is about them, they just leave me cold. At least until 'Low'. But then that album outstays it's welcome too. Title track is ace mind.

Ithaki is cool, Odyssey is one hell of a story.

My guess Mali is, if you saw Slayer, Metallica and Anthrax back in 87 then few bands would make an impression...

Low has many more fantastic songs. Joking and ranting aside, that's a REALLY good, fresh album with great songs.

Testament were quite good at ballads for a thrash band! The Legacy & The Ballad being my favorites.

Ballads, Thrash bands.

Two words that shouldn't be in the same sentence.

"Ballads", heh.

Fade to Black, Welcome Home, One and indeed The Ballad say you're wrong!

We had to have something to put on that mix tape man, when we tried to lure females into our midst. How did Philthy put it? "We're sensitive and shit"? This!

Just a little joke. Me and my mate used to call it that...
