Post BM albums 1997
Another good year, and lots of fairly similar ranking albums I'd suggest, so you can have 4 choices this time - a couple of albums which maybe weren't strictly BM such as In The Woods and Sacramentum but came from that idiom. There were loads of other albums by bands such as Besatt, Urgehal, Mork gryning etc etc but tried to go for the more recognised names/albums

2 is plenty. Mayhem and Gorgoroth.

But I realise I have never heard that Absu, which is a serious error on my part.

You can't be serious voting for Gorgoroth? They were an ordinary band back then. Just another face in the crowd.

Damn this is TOUGH. I'm torn between too many albums.

I'm going to have to think carefully about this.

It's also the first time I've seen this album mentioned in a while:

^^I remember it got a rave review in Terrorizer. It was quite good, but I haven't listened to it since the early 00's.

Emperor, Sigh, Summoning, OMC. (Voted the Sigh EP instead of Summoning by mistake)

Yup. Exactly. But that's 90% of these bands though, indistinct and average. Gorgoroth are more memorable in terms of their overall career is all.

Even though Blizzard Beasts sounds like shit, it's still the album on there I'm most likely to listen to. Also OMC and Emperor.

Considered this, but can't honestly say I've listened to it in years.

Me neither, but last time I listened Arcturus it was nowhere near as good as I remembered...

Wolf's Lair Abyss is the only one I care about from that selection, so it got my vote. Their best release up to that point (and first decent 'official' release), a solid 4/5. Why they waited so long to follow it up I can't figure out.

I'm surprised that no one complained 'Mayhem's is an EP, so it doesn't count'.

Can't agree with that. Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropic whatever the fuck it's called was great, especially the first track, love the way the intro leads into the riff and Barker kicks fucking ass on this album. The one after was pretty good too, but everything after was sub par. Although I did listen to Diablo...something a while back and it wasn't too bad.

I'm not altogether certain I've even heard of them before, though googling them the logo is vaguely familiar.
