This is a different sort of a poll to the usual ones. Hope it's OK here. If not, I'm sure one of the mods can stick it into the Shameless Plugs waggling-your-own-dick forum.

Metal Music Archives is a website I write reviews for. There's an annual collaborator's best-of survey thing. This year, one of the other guys has compiled the top 100 or so and stuck them into a list. Thought it might be interesting for some of you out there.

I haven't done very well, having heard only 8 on the list. :?

A lot of the contributors there are into prog and power metal in a big way. Not my scene, but it opens my eyes up.

13. But there's an awful lot of shite on there.

I didn't know there was a new Unleashed album.

It's decent. Nothing new, about what you'd expect.

Actually I think Hell's Unleashed was the last one I heard from them. And that's because it was the last one in the ...And We Shall Triumph In Victory boxset. I do like them, but that one last year is their twelfth release - which is just waaaay too many Unleashed albums for anyone.

Where No Life Dwells is the only essential Unleashed album, really.

19. Slayer in the top ten? Urrr no. Won't mention TPW. Wilderun was a great album as was Drudkh. As you know Enslaved and Maiden was my top two.
Surprised Cradle of Filth didn't make it

Here's the most recent list, which I compiled. I got 48/144.

One of the other guys has compiled some different genre lists too:

http://www.listchallenges.com/metal-music-archives-100-black-metal-albums

http://www.listchallenges.com/metal-music-archives-100-power-metal-albums (apparently it's European power metal, and hasn't included American. I can't tell the fucking difference, but apparently it's important! )

31 on the grind one. Surprisingly high for me, grind isn't my chosen specialist subject.

Yeah, not surprised. Some of the albums on that list are a little... fruity for my taste.

Try this on for size. 200 albums from this year so far:
