Early DM albums battle it out for what album was the greatest/most influential album (in your opinion). Which album had more of an influence on the early DM scene, and even though Chuck cited Possessed as an influence- did SBG have more of an influence than the album that preceded it?

Which album did you love/listen too more back when it first came out/you were introduced to it?

SBG is the better album by a mile. Musically they're clearly not competitive at all. Full marks for enthusiasm but SC is just all over the place.

Influence-wise it has to be SBG too. Possessed were basically seen as a minor thrash band at the time. They were part of it all starting maybe, but death metal was happening regardless.

Personally I rate "Scream Bloody Gore" a touch higher than "Seven Churches".

Scream Bloody Gore. Despite having a song called Death Metal, Possessed was a thrash band.

Possessed were MASSIVELY influential when I first got into them in 1988. It's doubtful that bands like Morbid Angel or Pestilence would exist in the same capacity without them. In fact the first two Morbid Angel albums have so many examples of pure Possessed worship that they could have been accused of plagiarism at times. Possessed's 1984 demo "Death Metal" was clearly a fairly brutal version of thrash metal. It sat somewhere between the first couple of Slayer albums & Venom's "Black Metal". "Seven Churches" on the other hand is fully fledged death metal. I'm surprised anyone thinks otherwise to be honest.
