When I tried to visit the site earlier I got a message saying that it had reached it's maximum limit of 1200 people trying to view. It sounds like you have some bandwidth issues you might want to look into, it would explain why this site has a habit of slowing to a crawl.

No one mention magic beans again either. That'll get the spam bots rushing in.

There's not that many links in there actually... and the best one's defunct. I may never again see that horny french blond void her enema filled bowels into a funnel in a mans mouth....sigh.

Might it not have something to do with the youtube links and especially youtube links in people's sigs?

Site down for another half hour or so this morning already and running slow again, if anyone is listening?

I'm listening. Very frustrating. Most of the time I can't tell if it's the site or just this fucking shitty piece of utter shit laptop that I'm stuck with.

I'm plumping for site as I use an online shared server to open and save all my work docs to and they're fine, and the Citrix thing that co-ordinates it all works fine.

As does footbal365 when I flick over there for a nose...

Definitely the site, internet outside of this runs smoothly.

Surely if any thread is killing the bandwidth it is the admirers thread?

Is it worth consigning to the grave completely and starting a new one?

It would have to be deleted along with the 'what are you listening to' thread and any other threads with loads of links/images if that is the case. Just moving them over to the hovel wouldn't solve the issues.

On our forum (which is similar to the way this is set up) we run this...

Quote:
Check IP against DNS Blackhole List:
If enabled the user’s IP address is checked against the following DNSBL services on registration and posting: spamcop.net and http://www.spamhaus.org. This lookup may take a while, depending on the server’s configuration. If slowdowns are experienced or too many false positives reported it is recommended to disable this check.

Check the admin settings in the admin CP. It's reduced our spam problem a lot and helped control dodgy traffic which was eating up our bandwidth. I don't know if this is of any help here.

Maybe lock the longer, link-heavy threads, start new ones if desired and delete the old ones? Cut down on the hotlinking too (I know I'm a repeat offender in this regard)?

Hotlinking hits the host sites bandwidth (whoever your linking from). The issue is more likely to be down to the amount of porn links and that sort of thing coupled with the fact that this is the Terrorizer site (well known publication, number one in search returns etc.) that will be attracting bots and crawlers to the site (that includes the main Tez site and not just the forum). It's almost a given that at anyone time there will be 3 or 4 bots on here. It's traffic that eats up bandwidth and although this site. It's the demand on a sites bandwidth that will cause problems. This is all guess work based on what I know from running another forum. Whatever is causing the problem it's probably a safe bet that the hosting isn't quite up to the demands the site puts on it.

Can someone tell me what 'hotlinking' is? Am I doing it without knowing it???

A hot link is when you post a picture or a link to something that is on another website. Hot linking is like: say you see an apple and you want to show that apple to someone else, so you fix up a fibre optic to them to look down and a light to illuminate the apple. The apple stays where it is but your friend can see it. Then he wants his friend to see it so he sets up a fibre optic to them to look down and so on. Trouble is the light illuminating the apple gets dimmer with every link so you have to turn up the light but as more people link, this is no longer strong enough but you have reached the max out put of your light. I do hope that makes sense.

Right, thanks, so you basically mean that every time anyone posts a picture using the [IMG] wotsits, or a youtube link, or anything really? I thought 'Hot-linking' was some especially bad way of doing this that used more bandwidth than a normal way.
