Post Re: What can your Terrorizer do for you?!
I probably buy about 60% of the issues that I see in stores. I like Tez, but I think Decibel is a better mag now (except for the sports crap).

I actually like Dominion. I'm evidently the only one. I don't understand the hate, because I'd say 70% of the bands they cover in it are not goth or industrial, but metal with some goth or industrial touches.

I don't like the new reviews as much- the writers don't have as much space, but still try to throw in the bells and whistles so you don't get as good of a feel for how the music sounds. They don't have as much room, so they need to get down to the nitty gritty. Also I don't like the 5 point system as much. I like having half points.
Also you shouldn't be afraid to really dig in when something sucks, use terms like "crusty heel of poop" and "musical canceraids". The reason I like Decibel a little better now is because of their reviews. They have a good, natural sense of humor and get legitimately excited about stuff (even if they seem to get the most excited about post hardcore and drone).

I do like some of the more playful stuff, like 6 Degrees of Embry and hard of hearing, but the lists are getting out of control and often don't seem to have a lot of thought put into them. A couple of well done lists here and there are cool, but you guys are going into overkill mode.

And that's the main issue I guess I have- the false hipness. You can feel you guys affinity for some bands, but other bands seem like they are just thrown in to sell issues, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of excitement about covering them. If you don't want to support a band, or just feel mediocre about them, people can tell when they read the article.

I like the articles where you revisit classic albums, but the celebrity mix tapes are kind of a waste of a page. You should come up with a bunch of interesting questions, and ask a different musician the same ones every month.

Honestly, was that Louis' Mithras moment? I never heard of that band before and then *Whomp!* cover and lead story.

Have I been that far behind the 3rd rate Scandinavian NWOBHM revival scene that I missed this huge band?

They'd been covered before, I knew the name.

A ban on man makeup and ridiculous costumes. I never understood the connection between extreme music and dressing up as a viking. It would be nice if everyone stopped trying to look so hard. My daughter picks up my copy and remarks 'daddy why is everyone so grumpy in the pictures?'

But that's the major problem a magazine has, surely? You have to cover bands that will make other people buy the magazine, and it's not like every writer is going to be super excited about, say, Amon Amarth. It has to be a balance between encouraging people to like the stuff that the writers like, and covering stuff that people have already heard of. That's my opinion anyway.

I had a flick through Decibel for the first time the other day. I liked it a lot, although I lot of the reviews are all "I think..." or "I feel..." which is a bit amateur-sounding IMO.

No! That would ruin my two games that I play after I've read the mag:

From each page, I force myself to list who I would most to least like to fuck. It's unbelievably hard and revolting because everyone in the magazine is so hideous. Sometimes I opt to be fucked by entire bands because they're individually so ugly and creepy looking, I wouldn't want to be left alone with any of them.

The second game is to state one nice thing about each of their appearances, which again is ridiculously hard. Sometimes it's stuff like "they have a chin that is not deformed" because the rest of their face is.

@vuego, more often than not the magazine won't actually take the promo photos, they'll be supplied by the record label/PR agency and/or the band.

Most metal bands STILL seem to think gurning is appropriate, nay! essential! for band photos.

So what bands or individuals take your fancy? The girl from Chtonic is very lovely.

Is she *that* attractive though, or just one of the few women in metal? She's not unattractive but she's not OHMIGODSOOOOOHOT.

She's Asian, she has fantastic boobs, she dresses on the right side of slutty and that's good enough for me. Women in metal are scarce alright but I think Laura Pleasants and liz from Electric Wizard would be attractive regardless of them being involved in metal.

Is "butters" a positve or negative thing? I assume it's positive as she's quite nice.

Usually stands for a woman with a "but" in the description... nice body not great face, usually

As in, she'd be fit but (for) 'er face

Known as butterfaces in Essix

Steev: Ah. I've no 'but' with Laura, though.

Wretch: Are they sexing? I was not aware of that. He is indeed a lucky chap.

I can't think of anyone. I like grungy, stoner rock, skater types. I don't like big beards, leather, makeup, dyed hair, patch jackets, high tops, teenagers, old blokes, fat blokes, ginger blokes, bald blokes, South American or Asian blokes, Scottish people, autistism, sexism, misogyny, football... wait, what was the question again?

HAHA! This reminds me of one time when someone wrote "Emma is a sket" in a playground about a local disabled girl. My police friend went round to speak to her mum, and when her mum asked what sket meant, he said gay. Haha, fucking idiot.

Butters = butt ugly.

Butters is from "butterface", which is a corruption of "but her face". As in, "Nice arse, but her face...".
