Post Re: Should the forum have it's own column in Terrorizer?
I'm old, late 30s (almost 40).
I've read T since it started, never subscribed, although I tend to buy it every month still.
I still enjoy it on balance, there's always band coverage that I have no interest in, but there's always at least something I enjoy reading for an hour or 2 in the bath whilst I wash my penis, which still justifies the price.
It also helps me feel connected to metal, since I don't listen to a lot of metal music currently (at least not modern [false] metal music).

I don't even bother with any other metal mags, since I think they're for the kids and not for oldies like me. Zero Tolerance is the only other mag I've bought in recent years, and it has too much of an amateur fanzine feel for me, so I may as well read actual fanzines instead.

I don't like the Dominion thing, but at least I can laugh at the suits and hairdos.
I like the Metal Chef and Sarcastic Existence columns.

This forum is another thing altogether though; most threads are de-railed after 3 posts, but that's what internet forums are for I suppose.

Sandwich thing, chef thing are bad, sarcastic existence is a fucking literary abortion on a monthly scale.

I'd much rather Termoid or Johnny Doom had the column. Not Richie though.

Wretch or Chantler should have a Bands You Should Have Heard column, or something along those lines.

To be fair, 50's country music is more extreme than all of these fucking fairies like Turisas, Ensiferum and Korpiklaaani that are currently masquerading as metal bands.

Could you really limit Wretch though?

He'd be waxing lyrical about 50's country music in a shot . . .

Or something equally removed from extreme music with no boundaries . . .

Chantler's would be one line about the band and then 2 paragraphs about how shit everyone is for not liking them and posing by listening to something else instead.

Nothing wrong with any of those bands, you silly boy.

Fucking limp noodle oompa music is what it is, twee festival filler euro cheese rubbish. I can't fucking stand it. There is nowt wrong with a bit of cheesiness in metal, but those kinds of bands have zero depth, and fuck all in the way of decent tunes. Into the fucking incinerator with the lot of them.

I kind of agree with Wretched - it is a bit harsh, but it is Eurofest fodder for drunken campers. To each their own though.

Korpiklaani I pretty much agree with, they have a couple of decent tunes, such as Pine Woods and Tuli Koko.
Ensiferum I feel get a bit of a hard wrap. I mean the likes of Into Battle or Victory Song are great. They just seem to have got caught up in the battle metal craze of the mid 00's
Turisas I feel are unfortuante that people only seem to know Battle Metal and Rasputin, despite a wealth of great tracks like Midnight Sunrise, Micklaguard Overture, End of an Empire, βένετοι! - πράσινοι!. I think people just see the more popular song, and the hordes of facepaint wearing plastic sword waving 14 year old battle metaller and write them of. But there's more to them than that.
It's just good fun, well composed over the top orchestral metal, with a bit of a folk feel in the early days. Stand up and Fight is one of my favourite album's this year. Not top ten material or anything, but good none the less.

I truly, truly wish it was. If this were the case, I would be first on the teat like a hungry calf. The idea of this kind of metal has potential but it wasn't done right and now the time has passed. :(

I loved the first two Turisas albums, was non-plussed with the advance track from the new one and still haven't bothered to buy or even DL it.

I see your point on Korpiklaani, Wretched, but dayum, painting Ensiferum with that brush is really very harsh.
They have some top notch tunes, and their live show is great. Listen to Slayer Of Light and try telling me that is "Fucking limp noodle oompa music."

I think their main problem is inconsistency. Out of all 3 albums there's rubbish tracks, and then a lot of the good tracks have bland moments. Like End of an Empire. Incredibly epic last few minutes, but the first half has some of the most average music going. However I feel the orchestration on stand up and fight is some of the best I've heard in a long time. I feel it achieves that soundtrack feeling it aims to evoke.

But when they get it right, I think it's incredible.

Yes that ^^

I'm very happy with Tez really, I have dabbled with other mags such as Zero Tolerance but Tez gives me what I need. Mind you, a spot the Gnome competition would be awesome.

That would definitely attract the senior citizen market.
