Chances are I'm going to wait a month or so to get this issue because we're always behind here in Canada ! But the year-review issue is one I can't miss.

Haven't seen the top 40 list yet, but like last year's Triptykon, Mastodon is a very safe choice for the AOTY title. Can someone please tell me if Craft's "Void" made the cut ?

Yes, it did.

It's bound to be a "safe choice" for number one because of the way the list is compiled. All the writers chose their favourite twenty albums and all the points for each album are added up - twenty points for a #1 choice, nineteen for #2 etc. So the album that wins overall isn't even necessarily anyone's specific favourite, so much as an album that featured on most people's lists - which is how I would guess the new Trap Them managed to get to number three.

Autopsy at 2 as well. Mastodon was in my top 5 - and despite what people's gripes with it are. The album is a stout Masto record. Curl Of The Burl is a belting song. 'The Octopus Has No Friends' is stunning and Black Tongue, All The Heavy Lifting and Spectrelight are typical, weighty riff monsters we'd expect from them.

I still don't understand why Mastodon are popular. They've spoiled the animal they were named after for me too.

I thought she looked like the head of the English department at a high school, though perhaps that says more about the school I went to than her..

Not sure I agree with the response saying Sikth and Akercoke are under appreciated though, they seem quite popular to me.

As for reviews only Forteresse who I could comment on, and whilst I largely agree with the review, I'd have given it a strong 4 rather than a 3.

You been writing in and hassling the good peeps of Tez, then, Anni?

Oh yes. It was quite out of character really, I just saw the big question about the under appreciation of British bands a few issues back and felt compelled to send an email. I don't think I've ever written into any magazine before in my life.

As for this months content, how come the bird from Arch Enemy was voted most attractive female? Do people not have standards anymore?

Personally, for me, Simone Simon Says would catch it.

I did wonder about that, but Devin Townsend -

won Sexiest Male, so who knows?

Not fair. He's scrubbed and wearing a suit these days. Plus charisma and ebing a musical genius earns him uber sex appeal.

Wow, two things on a list that categorically aren't shit. That's probably an improvement.

From that list I have
DTP - Ghost
Blood Ceremony - Living With The Ancients
Necros Christos - Doom of the Occult
Primoridal - Redpemtion At The Puritan's Hand
40 Watt Sun - The Inside Room
Negative Plane - Stained Glass Revelation
Opeth - Heritage
Morbus Chron - Sleepers in the Rift

and have heard Solstafir - Svartir Sandar

there was only 40 Watt sun that made my top 10 from that lot. I actually found Opeth and Primordial to be somewhat of a letdown.

I agree, the new opeth is a bit naff.
It's not as vastly different from previous albums than they'd have us believe, to me it seems more a change in aesthetic than anything else. Like opeth playing opeth songs in the style of someone else. And there's nothing to hold my interest with it. It's just a bland album.
