Post Issue #223 - The King is back!!!!
So happy to see that he's back in health and saying his vocals are better than ever before. Really really really really really really interested in what the next album is going to be about.

Also saw the bit about how he's like a horror filmmaker to pick up the story of one of his albums. We've all been thinking this for decades! Why the hell hasn't it happened yet? The movie could feature the actual music from the album.

And I still say he should be added Bloodstock. He even mentions being influenced by Alice Cooper so how fitting would it be for him to headline the Saturday night?!!! C'mon, powers that be!!!

It's all the same to me. Some albums better than others but they all feature King Diamond on vocals.

Don't Break The Oath is the best album of them all.

But then many of the KD albums step in before latter day MF gets ranked.

Piss off! Melissa is miles fucking better.

I used to be caught between the two but I settled the Oath just tops it for me. But Melissa is right there next to it. Didn't mean to offend by not mentioning it. First two full length MF albums are absolute classics.
And yes, the EP is great fun too!

Fucking Hell! It all fucking rules! King Diamond is a god of metal!!

My only real complain (other than the lack of bands I was really bothered about reading about) was the low score for Germ's Wish. I'd have given it a 4 rather than a 2 myself. But I imagine an album like that will be very hit and miss with everyone.

What did anyone think of the Machine Head feature?

I thought it most of it was filler, to be honest, but still, I didn't hate it. I know Flynn's a hate figure, but I'm still always interested in his pieces, having found him very different to the public Flynn when I interviewed him, and was interesting about his early days, looking for gigs, bands he was into playing like, that kinda thing.

It's difficult to do an interview I suppose that isn't about the album, that's to promote a tour/festival slot (Hellfest, Download, possible Bloodstock) and the band don't have much left to say about the last album as the band have already done the press/promo tour for that album, but it didn't hardly mention anything about Unto The Locust. All that said, I don't like Q&A interviews, much prefer a written prose piece with comment knitting it together.

The King interview was a different kettle, due to being interested in what he was saying about his health, present plans and the future etc and thought that read well.

Only half way through (the mag) at the mo.

Lugz Sabaton piece read like it was half of a longer piece (surprised they only got one page of text) but was decent, but for me, still not enough about actual music etc (not Lugz piece per se, the mag as a whole from the interviews I've read so far) but I guess the current slant is to focus on personalities.

Still don't like 'Choice Cuts' lay out/premise.

The whole Sabaton feature was basically Joakim saying he likes nationalism in theory but he isn't a Nazi. Thats pretty much all I could remember from it.

I thought it was somewhat interesting and made me more open to the idea of checking out more songs by them.

But my tolerance level dropped when he went on about his hard life and being abused as a child. Dude, you're over 40! Time to get over it! And acting like a victim for being adopted doesn't encourage people to become adoptive parents.

Maybe I read too much into it. But it came off to me less about how to deal and cope with life and more about sympathy fishing.

I generally don't think other people's health issues are interesting unless it's somebody close to you or something you have reason to think you might experience yourself (like a blood relative).

But what was interesting was how he described the whole ordeal. And what was more interesting is how he says he's quit smoking and his voice has never sounded better. And what's even more interesting is thinking about how all this might be reflected on his next album and future shows.

Ihsahn interview was good, though, even though again that was about him rather than the album, but it's a solo album, so more acceptable. Again, would have liked more about the music, the writing process etc, but decent read.

That'ss an interesting point. I remember Chantler asking when the last time the whole of a band made it on the cover, and I'm sure it was 2010. It's always the front man of a band, and looking through a couple of back issues here
#223
Only Rob from Machine Head on the cover
Machine Head - only interviewed Rob
Sabaton - only interviewed Joakim
Torche - only seems to be talking to Steve
Watain - Only Eric interviewed
Ides of Gemini - only Jason
Cattle Decapitation - only Travis

#222
getting better, there's two of Paradise Lost on the cover
Ministry - only spoke to Al, though I guess it could be argued he is ministry.
Huntress - Only interviewed Jill
Anathema - Only interviewed Vince
Municipal Waste - only interviewed Ryan
Cancer Bats - Only Interviewed Liam
The Wretched End - Only interviewed Samoth
JFAC - Only Jonny
Wodensthrone - only Hréowsian

#221
Only Jens from Meshuggah on the cover
Soulfly - only max
Saint Vitus - Only Wino
Cannibal Corpse - Only Paul

and so on, I can't really be bothered going on.
I've not read them all back as I've typed, so the odd one might be about the band as a whole, but it seems a lot more focused on individuals rather than bands. But as a personal preference I like to read about the music, not the people. (unless something to do with the person directly influenced the music)

You can turn off sigs and there is a massive difference in tolerance between a few gifs of a pretty gook and bare breasts/vaginas/naked gay wrestling/chick pissing in the street.

Don't let that ruin your argument though.

I'm not trying to "win" some idiotic internet argument or make a point for egotistical one-up-man-ship. I'm just stating a simple fact. You can't look at gifs of women provactively rolling their arses on a giant ball or scantily clad gooks dancing around at my workplace. It makes your posts not safe for me to look at in work. I can pretend otherwise but it's not the case. Just letting you know.
