I've started two, with polls. I'd say that was more constructive than simply moaning about repetition all the time.

Yes.

I keep feeling like I'm really missing something with that Converge record, go back and listen to it and decide that I'm not and everyone else is a cunt. I would go as far as to say that it's my least favourite album of theirs'.

Really don't get the hype about Pallbearer or Winterfylleth either. But all whinging aside, this is a considerably strong list.

No, you're not alone. I'm a recent convert and have only heard from Jane Doe on, but in that context, it's just another Converge album, nothing special. The only one of theirs that stands out for me (of those I've heard) is Axe To Fall.

Also: Baroness at #2? LOL.

Jane Doe and You fail Me are my favourite albums of those, followed in close succession by Axe To Fall. The thing with the new record for me is that it doesn't have that ragged, wretched feel to it that their best work does, and it's not half as exciting as Axe to Fall.

As I've said before, it's the way the poll works - everyone votes for their favourite 20, with 20 points being awarded to #1, 19 to #2 and so on - so albums that do well will be albums that a lot of people like a fair bit, even if no-one actually loved them. I don't reckon anyone will have put the Converge album as their personal #1. See also consistently high showings for bands like Enslaved, Napalm Death, Neurosis etc., even with albums that aren't necessarily their greatest - they're still good and everyone likes them so they do well.

EDIT: Looking over that list again I'm surpised how few albums I voted for made the cut! No Sigh anywhere is a big shocker...unless it's because I'm really thick and the album actually came out in 2011. No Tragedy, Dragonforce or Wolfbrigade either! What the fuck!

I have..... three, Meshuggah, Paradise Lost and Rush, and I still haven't listened to it all the way through, modern Rush really does suck.

I enjoyed the Jess And The Ancient Ones album, and although it initially sounds like Blood Ceremony knock-off Proto Metal it's actually much poppier than that. 4 fists, and worth a listen for Steev at least.
