 Re: Now Reading
Decided to read The Odyssey again. I notice that I follow the story better while having an audio book to listen to at the same time.

 Re: Now Reading
I was gonna say, "We heard you the first time" and then I realized "Oh shit, it's a sequel!". I only ever knew Dune for being some film with Sting back in the 80's and something that inspired an Iron Maiden song.

Book 3 of 6. I liked the film, but nobody else did, they're running out another version soon enough.

 Re: Now Reading
Yeah, I couldn't get into the film. I think I tuned into some scene with some fat guy getting his tube pulled out and I was told that they recycle their shit or something. I was a teenager at the time and it turned me off the film. Didn't even know there was a series of books.

 Re: Now Reading
And a (series of) miniseries, too. Haven't had much time with this book yet. So far, they're grand in scale and heavy on plot and philosophy (sort of), but the characters are all written to be so cold and calculating that they're very hard to warm to. Enjoyable all the same.

 Re: Now Reading
Question: have any of you folks ever read some of those err, ''anti-racist social justice'' books? I thought of reading some for my own amusement (which, based on what the authors have said in several interviews would be absolutely terrible, but oh well). The books I had in mind to download (no way I'm gonna pay for these!) are Why I am No Longer Talking to White People abut Race and While Fragility.
...If any of you wonder: I'm an Eurasian guy who is born in The Netherlands.

 Re: Now Reading
It's in good hands with Villeneuve, anyway. I loved Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. First part of 2, as well.

 Re: Now Reading
I have a hard time with the Lynch Dune, but that entire production seemed like it was a nightmare. I don’t know if they were trying to capitalise on the surprise success of Star Wars, but it just needed a lot more work. My understanding is that for that film, they had to supply a sheet explaining certain things (whether it be jargon or whatever), which probably isn’t a good sign. I think a contemporary audience might be more receptive to sci-fi/fantasy these days, and the production design aspect is certainly more attainable. I hadn’t realised Villeneuve was working on it, so I’m actually intrigued a bit by this now.
