Post Gym Thread...pump it!
Just thought I'd get this one going again for those who frequent the gym.

I've been well slack in the last month. I went the last two nights and I'm aching now. A friend of mine has given me a new work out plan as well, which I'm looking to take on.

How about the rest of you?

I recently moved the thing up from 80 to 95 on the thing where you sit down and move your legs upwards. That's progress of a sort, but I'm too set in my usual routine to change anything that drastically, my work out plan is essentially the same as it was three years ago but with most of the weights about one notch higher.

I have an excercise bike which is a bit rubbish, I have to turn up the resistance to the tp level and go as fast as I can to get any kind of work out. I go on it once or twice a day some days and once or twice a month some months. I need some discipline.

I have a "Bike" playlist of choons to get me pumped up when I do use it, it's mostly knucklehaed Metal - Pantera, Mistress II, Machine Head, RIB etc and also some old Cypress Hill, Prodigy, Dalek, Converge and the more straightfoward DEP stuff.

There's the benefit of getting three hours of exercise a week though, surely? What would you suggest?

All excersises do 3 sets of 8-12 reps, if you feel like you can do more than 12 reps dont count that set and up the weight, you want to be failing in the 8-12 zone, no longer than 1.5 min rest between sets either.

Monday Back and Ab's

Lat Pull Down
Close Grip Row
IBS ROW/SPIDER ROW/T-BAR-ROW / Or use dumbells if your gym dont have any of these ask trainer if not sure.
Close Grip Pull Up's (2 sets of 1-15)
Ab Crunch Machine
Any other ab excersise, lying on bench raising legs into air is good one for tightening lower belly

Tuesday Chest and Triceps

Bench Press (with bar)
InclineDumbell Press
Dumbell Flies (3*15reps)
Incline Cable Flies (3*15)
Tricep Pushdowns with cable
Dumbell behind head 1 arm at a time (3*12-15)

Thursday Shoulders and Bi's

dumbell press
Smith machine shoulder press
front or side dumbell raises
dumbell bi curls
ezbar close grip curls
21's (2 sets)

Saturday Legs

Squats 4 sets 12,10,8,6
Quad Press Machine
hamstring curls
seated or standing calfe raises

The above is what my mate has given me, because the workout I've been doing (probably similar to you Benji) was giving me newbie results but is now, not doing anything apart from general fitness and endurance muscle. Which is obviously good. To cut it all up a bit further he's recommended me the above, working on the serperate muscle groups, giving them time to repair and bulk up and cut. Give it a go Benj, he reckons in 6 weeks you'll notice the difference.

I just do the circuit of cross-trainer, bike, treadmill about two/three times a week if I'm at the office (we have a free gym) and then go for a run at the weekends on the old Downs link

my problem is doing the gym first thing in the morning and then sat at the desk for the rest of the day and eating crappy vending machine products

This. I always do a circuit of seven of the machines, two sets of 14 bicep curls (that's the technical term, right?) and twenty minutes on the cross trainer. If I attempted anything as complicated as doing different things on different days, I'd probably become confused and demoralised, stop going, and put on two stone within a month. I might cautiously attempt doing three shorter sets of heavier weights rather than two longer ones though, I've seen that recommended by several people who do this sort of thing properly.

Might go to the gym near me at some stage next week. I saw a guy running in a silver weight-losing outfit the other morning and decided I'd go looking for where it is.

...boxing gym that is.

Done fuck all during my paternity leave over the last fortnight, but back to work on Tues so back to 8 hours a week teaching kids so any excess will be worked off soon.

Don't know if I'll go back to my 5 hour sess on Weds weekly until Layla gets into her nightly routine as sleep is hard enough as it is!

Hit the ground running again this week. My diet has been so-so but I'll fix that eventually.

Doing three full body workout's a week, with a 20 minute warm-up of HIIT (5 minute warm-up, then the last 15 minutes is 1 minute as hard as you can on the highest resistence setting, then 1 minute relaxing, repeat until you feel like throwing up or the 20 minute mark) on a stationary bike.

Weights Regime: 5x5 (Five sets of Five Repetitions)

Squats
Deadlifts
Bent-Over Rows
Standing Military Press (Guerilla Presses also known as)
Bench.

Sometimes I add in Dips and Pull-ups but I'm not so good at pull-ups at the moment.

I'm also looking to getting a skipping rope for off-days and doing 20 minutes cardio with that since I really fucking hate running.

I can't afford a gym, but I participate in mediaeval German longsword fencing for two hours a week, and I run when I can find both the time and the motivation. Up to 0.9 miles a time so far.
