Post Re: Gym Thread...pump it!
Chest, tri's and shoulders today.

Was really good - did the chest presses at a decline due to there being no normal benches available except the decline bench. Was actually the BEST chest presses I've done in a while. Looks like decline may have a use after all.

The gym has a lot of new faces recently...

I've also tried a new supplement called ZMA which supposedly helps rest and recovery.

So far, it's given me utter batshit dreams...

I go to the gym from January to April, lose 2 stone, feel chuffed then spend the rest of the year putting it back on. The cycle is due to recommence next week. But IT IS NOT A NEw YEARS RESOLUTION. Never restart in the first week of Jan

Deca Durabolin is much better.

Never tried it - and probably won't as it looks like steroids.

Took some ZMA last night. Woke up feeling more refreshed.

Joined a new gym. DW Sports Fitness.

More weight equipment than my last gym and actually has a squatrack which is awesome. Just as many posers though...

Post Re: Gym Thread...pump it!
My new gym (Pure Gym) is open 24 hours a day. When i went for the induction the instructor said if you are here between midnight and 5am the changing rooms are locked and you will have to use the shower room. My response was along the lines of "why the fuck would I be here at those times?" but apparently people do go regularly through the early hours.

Anyway I am just over a month into going to the gym again and am still getting that great feeling everytime I finish a workout and am even managing consecutive days training so I must be eating right to facilitate recovery in 24 hours. I have stuck with mostly cardio (still a possibility we will run the Manchester 10k in May) but do basic movements also in terms of weights (dips, chins, shoulder press, tricep pushdowns and bicep curls). Also started to use the rope climber which is a fucking killer.

Does anyone else get a high-pitched whining in their ears when exercising?

The gym today looked like it was full of the cast of Once Were Warriors and the music over the pa was Duran Duran - Hungry Like The Wolf.

Just as well I had Misery Loves Company.

I think I'd rather Duran Duran to be honest.

It's making me think of moving gyms.

Yes, my gym has people like that too. A couple of them also look like they're on the gear but don't do their legs.

I went into the changers afterwards to see five (yes, FIVE) of them all lining up and comparing each others muscles while two other lads were bitching about being told to re-rack their weights after their workout.

Thats the ones. I've never seen any of these cunts train legs once. But aye good few of them are bum jaggers.

And yup they seem to have no shame in checking out their muscles in the mirror in front of every other person in there.

They will be first on the train to my execution camps when I come in to power. It's just appalling gym etiquette.

Can't imagine they have much gear if the membership is $10 a month...

Here's a question: Which is more beneficial - resistance or repetitions?

Er, if you can lift it too many times you're not doing enough. The ideal amount of reps for anything in a set is between 6-8 reps. If you can lift it after that range then you're too light. Reistence is really only useful for re-training damaged muscles (Which is what the weight machines in gyms were developed for, to aid muscle recovery).

Essentially if you're not panting/sweating you're not doing enough. Which is how I gauge it.

I would have thought 8-12 reps was more ideal.

Interesting... What they set me at the gym I go to was 2 x16 saying that as soon as you can do 2 lots of 16 you should +5kg next time around. Something about pushing the muscles when "tired" helps them 'grow' better. Or something. And also helps fat burn. Can't remember why, though.

So, should I change it?

Redesigned my programme so rather than going once or twice a week and doing an hour and a half each time and 13 or 14 different 'exercises', I'll go 3 times, but do an hour and do 9 each time, doing each thing twice a week.

Now just have to make sure I go 3 times a week!

One of the PT's reckoned its best to do a mixture of free weights and resistance.

Which I knew already.
