Get a hamster, they're a piece of piss to look after. Really funny when they fill their pouches so full of food that they can't get into the doorway of their little house.
Little bastards love curtains though so never keep them near a window. Mind you it's really heart wrenching when they snuff it 2 years after having bought one.

Had several before, they are the poor relation on my list as you can't cuddle them. One of mine filled his pouches,
then somehow got his head stuck in the window of his little house, he tried back out but couldn't. I had to gently push him from behind.

Curse you for buggering the format of the thread Ed P.

*Shakes fist*

Get a guinea pig. Big enough to hug, small enough to keep in a cage. They also live way longer than hamsters, so the cage seems like a worthwhile investment.

I looked after my mum's school's guinea pigs a few summers in a row, they will always be a poor man's rabbit to me.

Guinea pigs are way better than rabbits. They're more social, require less space and don't compulsively procreate with whatever's placed in front of them.

Plus, this.

I had guinea pigs as a kid. My female gave birth and my cat managed to open the cage and kill the babies. I still feel guilty for the guinea pigs and for being angry at the cat.

That is sickeningly cute. My friend had a male guinea pig and male rabbit and they used to take turns at humping one another. The guinea pig wasn't very good at it and used to fall over backwards mid job.

Next door's cat sometimes wanders in and looks at the guinea pig if the back door's open. The guinea pig's about the size of a rugby ball though, which I think the cat appreciates and therefore doesn't really get any more interested than a casual glance.

Our first rabbit was a large female, she was huge and very badass, she would attack cats that got into her pen. One day we got home from school to find she had escaped and was chasing a cat around the front garden.

The rabbit we used to have liked to hump the guinea pig if they were ever out together. The guinea pig tried to wash the rabbit if he got close enough without mounting up, but I don't think he's got much of a libido.

Next to that kitten the guinea pig looks boring and ugly.

Fried Guinea Pig (Ayacucho-style)
CUY CHAQTADO

1 guinea pig, de-haired, gutted, and cleaned
1/2 c. flour
1/4 - 1/2 t. ground cumin
salt and black pepper to taste
1/2 c. oil
Pat dry the skin of the guinea pig and rub in the cumin, salt, and pepper. Preheat oil. Dust the carcass with the flour and place it on its back in the oil, turning to cook both sides. Alternately, the guinea pig can be cut and fried in quarters.
Serve with boiled potato or boiled manioc root, and a salad of cut tomatoes and slivered onions bathed in lime juice and a bit of salt. Have cold beer on hand.

goes without saying. I'm all for 99% world wide annihilation, just as long as it is imposed fairly and over the course of 2-300 years.

humanity had it right when there were far fewer of us IMO
