Your favourite horror movie (and sub genres)
Original thread title, I know.
Anyway, your favourite (and favourites.) Not what you know to be the best now, your formative favourites. The ones you watched when your parents didn't know, or what made you love them in the first place. Heart over head. Ok?
Overall Brain Dead (1992)
Sub-genres (Add or delete your own) Gore: Re-Animator (1985) Zombie: The Return of the Living Dead (1985) Slasher: Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) Hammer: Dracula Prince of Darkness (1966) Satanic: The Exorcist (1973) Comedy: Class of Nuke 'Em High 2: Subhumanoid Meltdown (1991) Asian: Audition (1999) Monster: The Fly (1986) Wop: Zombi 2 (1979) Werewolf: Howling 2 (1985) Vampire: Nosferatu the Vampyre (1972)

Re: Your favourite horror movie (and sub genres)
this is a really hard one to answer
however the ones that i remember taping surreptitiously off the telly when i was younger (and had managed to work out how to operate the advance record function on the video recorder) and making the biggest impression on me were as follows:
frankenstein created woman (1967) the fly (1986) society (1989) (anyone else remember the moviedrome double bill of the fly / society on bbc 2?) halloween (1978) the silence of the lambs (1991) horror express (1972)

Re: Your favourite horror movie (and sub genres)
Not really into horror, I like "serious" Romero-type zombie movies, of which I'd probably choose Night of the Living Dead as a favourite.
I like more subtle, supernatural horror like The Ring and Dark Water too, couldn't choose a favourite.
I seem to be the only person here who liked The Mist.
I think 28 Weeks Later is a very under rated film, it's incredibly powerful and bleak.
I really enjoy Copolla's Dracula, very dated, camp and ridiculous but good fun and I loved it as a teen.

Re: Your favourite horror movie (and sub genres)
A Nightmare On Elm Street (1 & 2) An American Werewolf In London Re-Animator Hellraiser (1 & 2) Halloween (1 & 2) Aliens The Fly (1986) The Omen (1 & 2) Critters 'Salem's Lot (I know it was a TV miniseries but by christ parts of it terrified me as a kid, so I'm including it) Jacob's Ladder
There might be a few that don't really qualify as horror, and I know there are loads I've forgotten about but I loved all of those when I was younger. Some I wouldn't watch these days, obviously but they were the dog's bollocks when I was but a lad.

Re-Animator is a real gem. It doesn't get enough props imo.

The Fly, Halloween and The Exorcist are all favourites too, but The Omen is the best. I love that film so much!

Did you see the Mark Gattis BBC thing, Bumfinger? The bit on The Omen was very cool I thought.

Re: Your favourite horror movie (and sub genres)
Three hour long episodes and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Very much an old slant on horror. Up to the 80's principally.

I am shocked and stunned that you came up with that answer so quickly, Spiny. Cheers, I'll try to find it.
