That's a good rule of thumb! 80's action films were brilliant, and horror doesn't need to be about special effects. Horror should be about atmosphere and characters

Re: Your favourite horror movie (and sub genres)
Nostalgia plays a big part in this. By and large, '80s action & horror films weren't actually 'good', but when we (speaking for myself and others my age) got into those types of films, we would have been kids and they just ticked the right boxes. Nowadays they're slightly more grown up in their presentation - the actually good ones, at least - and not what we remembered liking.
Just a thought...

Lists like this tend to be arbitrary but there are some decent ones there, along with some interesting sounding ones that I wouldn't mind seeing. Decent list. I've seen 14 of those. The Descent is shit though.

I've watched 13 of them, some of them are decent, but none of them have the charm of the old Hammers, or 80s slashers.

I thought it was OK. The sequel was definitely shit.

I've seen 15 which I'm surprised at, considering I've not really paid attention to Horror for a while. Anatomie is a pleasant surprise.
I actually own 10 of them.

The Vampire Lovers, probably. I'm not a big Hammer fan. I do like The Asphyx, and I know it wasn't a Hamner film, but it's a similar beast.

Vampire Lovers is getting more votes here than I usually see. You guys are fans of Ingrid Pitt then?

Re: Your favourite horror movie (and sub genres)
It FollowsAbsolutely loved this. Everything about it is great. The story is a bit different to the usual. This keeps it interesting. The soundtrack is perfect. It sounds like a Dario Argento score mixed with some classic 80s horror movie. I really liked the main character of the movie and I do think there is enough about this to have a sequel. Has anyone else seen it?

Good start, falls away in the middle, and goes completely fucking stupid at the end. 2 Fists.
