For shame sol.

I didn't even read it. I just saw lyrics and assumed it was more of that Manonman nonsense.

Speaking of "Arthurs Day", I see Christy Moore has written a song against the whole concept. But he is releasing it the same day...

It's shite, predictably.

Listen to this fucking Diageo PR worm trying to push the whole 'Arthur's Day is about music, not drink ' line: http://www.rte.ie/news/morningireland/p ... lash%2C232

The other chap (a liver specialist) politely assists him in embarrassing himself.

It isn't for everyone (over here, anyway)?

On the one hand the Seanad often seems ineffectual and pointless, but the idea that The Dail will pass things into law, especially EU policy, unopposed, does fill me with dread.

And the fact that the right to have a referendum if enough of those elected believe it is in the national interest will be removed from the constitution seems a step too far to me.

And with Fine Gael pushing so hard for it to be abolished, but yet Kenny won't publicly debate it, is like a warning sign surely, especially given his recent record. The two parties in government can't even agree on the matter.

I don't know how I feel about the Court Of Appeal. I don't think I know enough about it.

Re: Diageo Day - Manic Street Preachers are (or were, they've probably finished by now) playing in a pub in Galway. Would be nice to see them play a small scale acoustic set but there were crowds of people 100 yards up and down the road outside. A mate ofmine is a huge Manics fan, but is working in another pub over there (they've got Alabama 3 and Huey Morgan Djing) and so wouldn't have made it. Which is shite.

Oh, I do. My point was that I'd like to see the Manics play, rather than buy into the hype and associated bullshit.

Well, quite. I am 40 miles from the gig.

I apologise for the Manics participation in this national travesty.

I don't understand the referendum one bit. I will be in Dublin babysitting so I cannot vote anyway.

You don't like him because he pronounces "th" properly.

Author:  Solaris [ Thu Nov 07, 2013 4:31 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Bejayzus! The Paddy thread

Does he? If it's as a 'th' and not 'f' or 'v', then he does.

Regardless, I don't like him because he is a terminal irritant whose only acceptable musical contribution is My Lovely Horse.

That is the only correct way of pronouncing "th".

The Irish "t" for "th" is a lot more widespread than the South East English "f", in terms of scale though, there are probably more estuarine filth with that particular articulation issue. Many of those fuckers miss out "t" altogether too.

My friend from Dubland sometimes pronounces "Matthew" as "Matchew".

Post subject:  Re: Bejayzus! The Paddy thread

Yeah, we get that here, too. The 'T' thing is fairly widespread but as completely wrong as the 'V' or 'F' bit. I do it myself from time to time, especially when I've had a shandy or two, but it's an unwelcome intrusion of our local accent and I hate it when I notice it.
