 Re: Real Ale Appreciation Thread
Killed by its percentage - a full on whack of alcohol with no distinct tastes. Smooth though. 3 fists. Caramel, liquorice, mocha, chocolate...the list goes on. Thoroughly enjoyable. 5 fists. Another superb strong ale (I was fucking hammered by this point). Not as distinct in it's flavours as Zombier but great all the same. 4 fists.

 Re: Real Ale Appreciation Thread
Stumbled across it in Morrisons last night. They seem to be on stock change over from IPA dominating the shelves to some more heavy stuff.

 Re: Real Ale Appreciation Thread
I knocked back a bottle of some Australian stuff. It had the desired effect but I'd been on the beer before that so it could have been tramps piss for all I cared.

This brewery is pretty close to me, they're sort of middle of the road, they do some good ones. Their Green Line Pale Ale is probably the best one I've had by them. Here's a question, how common are American craft beers across the band? Not talking about the big/crappy breweries obviously, but there's an abundance of great small brewers here. Do any make it to the shelves in the UK?

All I see in the supermarkets are Goose Island, Samuel Adams and Boston Brewing Co, occasionally see Sierra Nevada too. When I go to the specialist ale shops I can get stuff by Rogue, Anchor Brewing Co, Mendocino Brewing Co and North Coast Brewing Co.

 Re: Real Ale Appreciation Thread
I had some local brew dark ale in a glass with a handle, so it tasted better, I have no idea what it was called. Cool story.
I also tried Leffe Brun, much nicer than "regular" Leffe.

Goose Island has been bought out by one of the big brewers, fortunately they haven't changed any of the recipes. Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada are rather large here, I haven't really enjoyed anything Sam Adams have put out. Rogue and Anchor are pretty good breweries.

Shipyard Brewing Co IPA has appeared in the shops this week - they are part owned by Miller though. Got a bottle of IPA to try over the weekend as well as a bottle of Courage Russian Imperial Stout. Was talking to someone from the Courage family at a work thing in London the other week - he said the original family have very little to do with the brewery after a distant relative of his pissed everything up the wall decades ago.

^The Santa V.S. Unicorn was great, one of the better Barleywines that I've had. Had some Kentucky Bourbon barrel ale as well, 'twas good.

 Re: Real Ale Appreciation Thread
Nice and strong stout with a solid after taste. A dull taste despite it's pine, fruit and earthy aroma. Nice nutty aftertaste and generally very warming.

 Re: Real Ale Appreciation Thread
The last proper pint I had was Beartown's Black Bear back on the 3rd of december. Absolutely love that stuff. But in general I just haven't been drinking half as much these last few months, and when I have it's been Red Wine/Port or Kahlua based coctails.
