They'll be in with the exhibit of crusty wank-socks and old copies of Razzle from the 80s.

Judging by the amount of swastikas it looks like the whole place is based on Crom's bedroom.

The opinion of one pissed Paramore fan may not be as significant as you think it is, Mal.

Oh come on, the content of the conversation in this thread has topped most of the recent new conversations.

Mali threads > sport thread (which I've never read).

I'd be interested to see that museum as it does seem quite barmy! Having said that, I like 16th Century brickwork, so my museum opinion might be more specialist than most!

I think the whole purpose of the layout is sheer sensory overload. And probably the Star Wars and other tat stuff is to break-up the more miserable and damning stuff so you don't want to hang yourself by the end.

Or it was just laid out by a clueless simpleton or raving nutter.

I don't think there's much thought at all, I think that's the problem... as something of an organizer myself it jarred horribly, I would relish the chance to sort it out. Well I suppose there is some lazy attempt at theming, but the Robinson Golly does not belong in a case with KKK robes. Ridiculous.

The idea of 'BCE' is laughable, because the entire system is organised around Jesus' supposed birth - giving it a different name doesn't make that way of measuring time any less culturally specific than calling an abbattoir a fairy factory would make it a nicer place. Whatever you call it the system remains exactly the same and is a Christian one which has been more or less forced on the rest of the world.

Try working with Carbon 14 dates, where the same book will differentiate between bc and BC when discussing prehistoric dates!

I quite like the BCE thing, and if you're talking about entire world contexts it kind of works to try to not have it as a Xian calendar, seeing as Muslims start their own at 630AD (I think, bit rusty on that that one).

I generally refer to just BC as I like Xianity, but I can see the reasoning behind it as many historians seem to grumble about the strict Xian calendar. To be fair though, in Britain, it's what our historical documents are based on, so it seems easier to me to work with that.

But that's my point, Crom - using BCE IS still using the Christian calendar, it's just giving it a different name. It doesn't matter whether you call it 'Before Christ' or 'Before the Common Era' (whatever that's supposed to mean) or 'Before Jam Sandwiches' - it's using the exact same dating system, the Christian calendar. It isn't any different.

I write 'BCE' when I'm writing essays and things too, because it's common practice now, but it's not any less 'prejudiced' a way of writing about, for example, India 4000 years ago, because it's not any more universal than 'BC' is.

I think that is about the right date for the Hijra, by the way.
