I think I've finally cracked 'Forever Failure'. There are still no clear videos of Greg playing the all the solo, but I've watched about six different ones and you can see different bits of it in each of them, and it looks like the bit that's tabbed as a hammer-on and a pull-off down on the twelfth, fourteenth and sixteenth frets is actually a couple of quick little bends on the ninth. I'm tentatively pleased with myself now.

Does anyone know of any really simple confidence booster songs to learn for complete amateurs?

Although I'm ultra shitty when it comes to barre chords, I'll give the opening bits a go.

Feel free to spit out some more simple ones.

I've already got the opening notes (nothing else, mind) of Nirvana's Come As You Are.

For Whom The Bell Tolls is a piece of piss to play, I'm not being sarky. Here's the tab.

It was a very hasty reply. I just looked up the tabs and shit myself reflexively.

You have no idea how utterly fucking piss poor my hand/eye co-ordination is.

If I see anything more complex the Smoke On The River in tab form I feel intimidated. On closer inspection, you are right, it is quite simple, but my fingers have always had trouble with power chords.

The main lick from Rebel Rebel by David Bowie is pretty easy too.

If you're having trouble with power chords try tuning your bottom E to D while leaving the others the same (so D, A, D, G, B, E) that way you can play a power chord by fretting the D and the A with one finger. A lot of metal is played in drop D. Walk by Pantera being a prime example.

My main hurdle with this, like with all chord based songs, is moving my hands fast enough to the rhythm of the song.

Individual fingers are ok-ish, but it all falls apart at chords.

That's why drop D is quite handy. You can play the chord with one finger.

Same here. Fingers too bony to hold down all the strings properly.

This too. I actually find lead easier to play than rhythm in most cases. And don't even get me started on trying to switch between chord-shapes. And chords with missed strings? Fucking hell.

Essentially you are paying for the name. You could build a few of your own for that amount for fuck sake, even if you used Fender and Gibson parts.

Got my Epiphone Jeff Waters V, and I'm loving it.
