Will do. I'm hoping to get rid of it fairly soon. I've been tussling with the idea of getting rid of it for ages and wan to get it over with before I find some half-arsed reason to change my mind. I haven't even taken it out of the case in ages so I think it's fair to give it a new home.

Fair enough. I still haven't gotten a decent amp so I should probably get that before I start buying new guitars anyway.

if money wasn't an issue, i'd go for PRS modern eagle 2 over a Gibson or Fender, any day of the week:

Al Di Meola used to play one before he went for the Prism. You can see him playing it in this video:

can't deny the finish though! The level of detail is great!!!

MORF: i've heard that too, but mostly about the lower end models.

al Di Meola's prism sounds great! not entirely sure about the look though:

^^regardless, takes a lot of work to mix those colours like that and get it just right. another reason why the guitar is so expensive.

How regularly do you people practice/play? Do you have any tips for staying motivated?

Don't try and run before you can walk and don't try an emulate your 'heroes'. If you measure yourself next to someone who is clearly leaps ahead of you you'll only be disappointed. For every track you learn to play have a jam and write your own stuff.

I'm told PRS are a jack of all trades guitar without really nailing a certain sound.

PRS are fucking dull. Ok work-horse guitars, but on the whole a bit bland. Much like most modern 'shred' guitars. Get a decent Strat, Tele, SG or Les Paul. They all have a different tone/playability whereas ESP, PRS and modern Ibenezs are all pretty much interchangeable as they all work on the same principles. BC Rich are toys. The only 'modern' company producing widely available guitars that are any good are First Act.

Everyone is leaps ahead of me. Heh. The one-to-one learned track/jammed original thing is a nice idea, though.

Just bought a Les Paul Studio. Wish i could play it better, been into acoustic playing for a while, but now i'm trying to master the whole...shredding thing. Not really too hot on it but it's better to be able to, and not need it, than need it and not be able to. Or whatever.

This is the one, anyone else got one?

It very much depends on what you want to play on it and also taste. Post some pictures of the sort of guitars you like and I'll have a stab at suggesting something.

Depends what style/sound you're looking for, but Fender Squire series always did alright as a cheaper, GOOD starter guitar. Smooth, easy to play and to learn on, but won't give you the crunchy sound if you're looking to play Extreme META-A-A-A-L though.

Just whatever you do, don't buy a MetalZone pedal for your rhythm sound unless you want to sound like early DarkThrone!

They are alright actually. I borrowed one for few gigs when my guitar was being repaired, it sounded pretty decent even through a small combo with no pedals, and its more comfortable than most strat style guitars too. Stayed perfectly in tune, and the set up was spot on, even though it was just a cheap back up he had in a closet somewhere. Nice looking guitar too, they look much better in reality than in pictures. It had a natural finish, looked proper smart.

Not a fan of the graphics. I'd like a nice V shape guitar though. Remember the old Hamer Vectors that Gary Moore and Jeff Waters had? Waters Epiphone sig looks good in black. Its well steep for an Epiphone though, at least 200 quid more than the Eric Peterson Dean V, which has a much better look and higher quality finish, and EMG pickups.

Just started doing a bit of work on an old Mockingbird copy I have. Moving the straplock, and replacing the tuners. A mate of mine is going to help me with the pickups. I'm taking the neck one out completely, and putting a new one in the bridge, nothing too expensive, just a half decent humbucker of some description. It only has a volume control already, so a nice simple set up.

Anyone seen the Scott Ian signature Jacksons? The single pickup is lovely, although some appear to have a pickup surrounding, and some don't, which looks weird to me. Pretty expensive for a single pickup guitar with no trem or locking tuners or anything too.
