Post Dog vs Cats
Who is the best pet? Is it the evil, wildlife torturing, eye scratching, selfish, haughty in indifferent cat; or the loyal, bouncy, hardworking, protective and useful dog?

This. Often needy perhaps, but genuinely affectionate, and with lots of character.

Always had cats, they can look after themselves when you're out of the house, wouldn't mind getting a dog for company when I'm an old man.

Cats. Cleaner, more independent, less stupid, more mouse-catching-er. Cats.

Cats. Even when they're arseholes, they tend to be avoidant in expressing it, whereas dogs will go for you like some fucking townie whose pint you've looked at. It'd be interesting to see how many small children have been mauled to death by cats, put it that way. And what other animal voluntarily eats its own shit?

Edit - rabbits do, but they kind of need to.

Whoever said cats cannot show affection must've had some grumpy cats (No pun intended), although mine are largely independant, they like to come over and cuddle in.

One of mine caught a budgie the other day.

Many people mistake cat's haughtiness for intelligence and dog's servility (which we have bred into them) for stupidity, I believe intelligence tests have thus far proved dogs more intelligent. As a rule social animals are more intelligent, they have to read the behaviours of other group members, we've bred dogs to recognise ours. They are also all the descendants of Eurasian wolves, pack animals. Dogs are certainly more empathetic than cats.

I understand why people prefer cats and they are certainly less demanding, I prefer dogs and they have been central to our cultural and even technological evolution- as guards, hunters and herders in a way that no other animal has.

Many breeds of dog have been bred to be killers, cats haven't mauled many people to death as they lack the strength of most dogs, even smaller ones.

My dog came and cuddled in when I was upset my grandad died.

My cats pissed in my shoes when I was upset after my wife miscarried.

So yep, dogs show more empathy.

Dogs, by light years.

I have had both all my 34 years in this planet. 16 dogs and 23 cats have shared their days with me and my family and although I sincerely love them both immensely, dogs will always be superior. Their capacity for adaptation, socialization and team work is far beyond anything a cat could do. Actually, I have always found cats to be rather unintelligent.

Are you one of those people on Pet Rescue with a house overrun with animals?

Scale cats up to the size and muscle mass of child-mauling dogs and watch the body count climb.

One other thing about "dog attacks": We never hear about what sweet little Johnny was doing to provoke the animal.
