 The TV Thread.
Got up to date with the new series of Dr Who last night.
The Beast Below. A marked improvement on the first episode. Smith was much better, with neither a Tennant nor chimp impersonation in sight. The story, although basically being two reworked Star Trek: Next Generation episodes rolled into one was also very good. The music is still annoying me though. Far too intrusive and melodramatic. However, I could watch Amy Pond in a nightie for hours.
Victory of the Daleks. What a laboured 40 minutes of overacting and wafer thin storyline that was. The short action scene was straight out of Revenge of the Sith, the new Daleks look like gay, plastic, brightly coloured props, the script was overwrought with way too many DRAMATICALLY PUNCTUATED LINES either spoken with wide eyed fear or anger. And once again the over-insistent incidental music got on my bloody nerves. It also felt like an English version of Independence Day with the Doctor's DRAMATIC SPEECHES and the Union Jack flying at the end. I think the Beeb have an English Roland Emmerich in their midst. Probably the worst Dalek story since Revelation of the Daleks which had Alexei Sayle playing a disc jockey.
What's next? Something about cave monsters by the looks of it. Dr. Who does The Descent? Either way it'll probably end with yet another "ooooooh look at that" teaser shot of a rip in the time/space continuum.

 Re: The TV Thread.
any news on when Caprica returns? I'm sure US series didn't have this mid-season break before, or is it an excuse to axe series if they don't make the ratings?

I watched South Park online when you said the new one was good but I only found old ones. Can you link me? How I Met Your Mother, QI and The Wright Stuff are very guilty pleasures.

Currently waiting for NCIS Season 2 to arrive in the post and started watching the new season of The Prisoner on ITV the other day as well. Can't say I went vastly on it. New episode of Lost on Friday though which isn't too bad.

I finished The Wire a few days ago, now I only have my Gavin and Stacey and Jonathon Meades box sets to keep me going.

I think I liked it more than you, but overall it left me fairly cold. I'm not really feeling Amy either, on any level despite the obvious physical one. By this point, Rose, Martha and Donna had all reacted in some human way to the incredibleness of their new situation, but Amy just stepped in like a cross between a Barbie and an action hero. I'm enjoying the series, but I'm hoping it finds its feet a bit more soon.

The only TV show I make the effort to catch even occasionally is Deadliest Warrior.

New SouthPark. Mecha-Streisand in 3D now!!! Here's hoping 3D Robert Smith (one of the few famous types they've managed to be kind to) can save the day again. Perhaps with Brian Boitano's assistance.

Although I tend to watch the series all in one on dvd, at least watching an episode a week gives me something to look forward to on Irish tv stations, most of whats shown is a complete shitfest these days.
