 Forgotten Movies Which Are Ace
The Duellists Ridley Scott's first movie. Barry Lyndon with swords. I advocate it most earnestly. Your favourites...

Re: Forgotten Movies Which Are Ace
Triggered by the Op's mention of The Duellists, Spielberg's debut - a TV movie called Duel is pretty good, or so I thought the one time I saw it many years ago. A (business?) man driving out in the middle of nowhere overtakes/cuts up a lorry driver, who then attempts to murder him by running him off the road. Not much dialogue and you never have a clear view of the vengeful driver. I'd rather watch that again then most or all the stuff he's done in the last 10-15 years.

It's obscure for a Spielberg and seldom mentioned but no, it's not truly "forgotten".

That said, I don't frequent music forums or read film mags etc I always forget that MR was Spielberg, in fairness it is a a pretty forgettable film. I think it's the last of his I saw.

Duel is fairly well known alright, decent movie on a micro/TV budget.
Another vote for The Duellists, one of my favourite films. That last shot of the river/valley alone puts it up there. One of Scott's best, top 3 at least.

Stephen Spielberg's first feature film I think. You never actually see the truck driver, but that truck is just so fucking scary on it's own!

Intacto was pretty decent alright. There was talk of a Hillywood remake, I don't think it came to pass, or at least not that I'm aware of.

Re: Forgotten Movies Which Are Ace
Hey guys did I tell you I was into Fritz Lang at the moment? In all seriousness, when people talk about Lang they talk about the 3 M's. Metropolis, Mabuse, and of course M. Even when you look at his American work people talk of The Big Heat and Scarlet Street. Very few people seem to talk about You Only Live Once. A film in which a youngish Henry Fonda plays a 'three time looser' trying to go straight, but society won't let him. It's tragic, it's gorgeously shot, and there's a recurrence of the themes of destiny found in his earlier film Der müde Tod (There's a 2k restoration showing at Berlin this year.) The only real acknowledgement I've seen for it has been from Godard who said it was a big inspiration for Pierrot le Fou. It's a fantastic film in my in my opinion and easily in my top 10 Lang films.

I was going to mention Scarecrow but couldn't find a decent image.
American Splendor is great. Rewatched it for like the 6th time recently.

Over The Edge (1979) Kids living in white trash American town "revolt" against the system that oppresses their emotional outlets. So they rampage and fuck shit up. Stars a young Matt Dillon. Inspired a young Harmony Korine.
