The only Tim Burton films I like are Beetlejuice and Batman because they are the only good ones.

Fact.

Unless there are some 'private' ones with Helena Bonham Carter taking it up the jacksie.

Beetlejuice was a cracker. Never bothered with Batman and the other 'man' movies/stories, etc.

Starred Up - Prison film starring Jack O'Connell. Better than I expected, he's a violent offended moving from Juvenile Detention to adults' prison, his father happens to be one of the top boys and in between clashes with him, the governor and practically eveyone else in there, he eventually begins to mellow. Great performance from O'Connell, more could have been done with the plot and the majority of characters, but it was a decent enough hour and three quarters.

Yeah, you're a knob if you are not on board with "Ed Wood".

Not only is Ed Wood Burton's best, it's also one of the best American films of the last 25 years.

That and Frankenweenie are the only Burton films that I haven't seen that I have any intention of watching. I've seen the short black and white that Frankenweenie is based on, it's OK but nothing special.

I have no argument with this statement.

Top 5 Burton (in no particular order):
Ed Wood
Beetlejuice
Batman Returns
Sleepy Hollow
Mars Attacks.

Worst 5:
Planet of the Apes
Alice in Wonderland
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Sweeney Todd
Big Fish

Clown

A realtor - no, sorry, that really doesn't sound right in an English accent - an estate agent finds an old clown costume in a house he's trying to sell and decides to wear it for his son's birthday party. Unluckily for him, the clown costume doesn't want to be taken off as, even more unluckily, it's actually the skin of an ancient Nordic demon who likes chomping on children.
As each day passes, he slowly transforms into the "Cloyne" (a fictitious creature dreamt up for the purposes of the film) with the costume only able to be removed after the demon consumes five children.

Clown is an enjoyable little Eli Roth produced film, with decent acting (including a suitably over the top performance from Peter Stormare) and a great imagined history for the Cloyne. Although hardly bereft of humour, it's actually quite dark and mean spirited. Although sparing with the gore, it's not exactly bloodless, but because children are the preferred victims you do find the camera cutting away at the last second or the deaths being left more up to your imagination.

The film's highlight has to be the scene inside the indoor children's play area, which manages to make a room full of brightly coloured slides, tubes and a ball pool incredibly creepy and sinister. The film's only real negative points are its pacing and length. At 1hr 40mins, it could easily have been cut down by a good fifteen minutes, and after it starts quickly, things soon slow down to a crawl before only speeding up again towards the end.

Big Fish is great, of course and I enjoyed Alice In Wonderland. Mars Attacks! was shit, and Beetlejuice is pretty average. He's incredibly overrated.

how is it possible for him to be 'incredibly overrated' when his output has been so divisive over the last 14-15 years? Perhaps early Burton is overrated, but even then I don't think he is anywhere near as celebrated now as he was back in the day.

Funny thing with burton is my my kids LOVE it Alice and Charlie and I mean LOVE to the point of watching each 3-4 times a week, he's obviously doing something right, I mean Alice made 1 billion at box office.

A really great film about the outbreak of HIV in New York in the early 1980's. I loved it.

Watched Badlands in the cinema the other day. I think its my fourth time seeing it but I still pick up things I'd either missed or never really appreciated before

Going seeing Au Revoir les Enfants this afternoon, and Wings of Desire later in the week.

Absolute steaming pile of gash.

The exact type of film I hate. Just a 90 minute exercise in visual effects. Scarlett Johansen sleepwalking through it. Morgan Freeman doing his nice wee friendly old man act. Pish pish pish.

As is Faraway, So Close. Both frustratingly difficult to get hold of on DVD.

Been looking for Faraway So Close for ages, never comes up on ebay.

Sure Wings of Desire has had pretty common dvd and blu ray releases.
