DEAD MAN: Not much to say here. The new blu is excellent and the film hasn't aged a day since its release really. An acquired taste to be sure, but worth the effort for those inclined. It's easily Jarmusch's best film that also serves as a reminder of Depp's untimely fall from grace. 4/5. Maybe 4.5

Great film with an outstanding soundtrack, might have to pick up the new blu Ray.

If you love the soundtrack then you need the new blu. It sounds amazing. You can really hear all of the brittle details.

Is it the 2015 version?

It's the new Criterion version based on a new 4K master approved by Jarmusch.

In short, this is the only version out there worth owning.

On the Beach (1959)

I liked the idea of the movie but I thought something about it didn't strike me as much as it should be. Perhaps it's worth finding the remake.

I hope region 2 is available

I hate to be pessimistic about this, but if the most recent video release came out in 2015, you will probably have to wait until the current licensing rights expire in the UK before the Criterion version gets released.

As far as I'm aware, Jarmusch owns the film and licenses it out to companies to distribute.

I'm glad I own a region free player.

Avengers: Infinity War was decent. A bit throw-everything-at-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks but enjoyable enough.

Dunkirk was well put together, but far from compelling.

I thought it was Nolan's best, hands down.

Supergirl: corny but entertaining. Its flaws seem to overwhelm its virtues, but it has a few great set pieces (e.g The Phantom Zone) and Slater is stunning as Supergirl. Pure beauty and grace. 3/5. 5/5 for Slater.

Yeah, I didn't really love Phantom Thread that much. It's one that was perfectly fine, but I doubt I'll have any great urge to ever re-watch.

I'm getting tired of PTA's neurotic characters. Their neuroticism just seems like a tic at this point.

I couldn't see a point to Phantom Thread at all.

Doctor Strange: This isn't different for Marvel. It is the same template with a new coat of paint. and it's fucking boring too. 2/5

Three Billboards... - loved it, better than I'd expected (though not quite worth all the hype), excellent performances from McDormand (who I generally can't stand, she was essentially playing herself here) and Rockwell. McDonagh's redeemed himself after the non-event that was Seven Psychopaths. 4/5

Pacific Rim: Uprising - even sillier than the first one, but at least this time you could actually make out the action. 2.5/5

S Is For Stanley - Kubrick's chauffeur/personal assistant/dogsbody relates anecdotes from 30 years of working for him. Interesting to a point, but didn't shed much light on Kubrick other than he was very focussed and very demanding. 3/5
