Plenty of robot monster punch face in this one?

Not much, actually. About as much robot punch robot face as robot punch monster face, but it's ramped up a bit.

Spiny will probably say otherwise, but the new Halloween film, which ignores all of the sequels, looks pretty ordinary to me. Jamie Lee's crazy cat lady look is also ridiculous.

There's only so many places an escaped, masked, slasher psycho film can go though...really.

I'm hanging out for this Harmony Korine Beach Bum trailer to hurry up and get here.
Itching to see what he's done with the um..."beach, stoner slacker" genre.
If anything.

Korine peaked early. Gummo and Julien Donkey Boy are his best films.

Re: Film Thread VI
I really don't now what to think right now.
It's a difficult film to critique. It does get under your skin, as such, and does manage to keep the tension levels to above fairly high levels more or less throughout, but.....ultimately I felt empty by the end and kind of robbed- as if I'd seen it all before.
And if you've seen enough demonic cult themed films, you probably have.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - Madder than the first/fourth one, echoes The Lost World in part but, despite some seriously cheesy moments (a dinosaur's tear of pain, selective ability to smell prey, outrunning a 300+ mph fucking pyroclastic flow), its really enjoyable. Dark too, for this franchise. My 3 1/2 year-old nephew loves the other JP/JW films but he's way too young for this one. 4/5.

Utter nonsense. 'I haven't seen this but I think I won't like this, therefore you must be wrong.'

Your film snob comment was better!
I guess my point is this: how many blockbusters would you rate 4 and above? I'm sure it's only a small number. Very small. That would make the new JP almost top tier.
I just find that hard to believe, unless you think the original is worth 10/5.
What would you give Jurassic World?

Re: Film Thread VI
3/5. I rate films by how much overall enjoyment I get from them, and take them within their own context. There'd be no point in comparing something like this and, say Blade Runner 2049 as, while they're both sci fi films, they're coming from so very different places within the genre that any comparison would be redundant, but yet I'd score them similarly. JW2 is a very, very silly film with plenty of faults, but I found it to be great fun and so I scored it accordingly. Saying "that can't be right" without even having seen it is just ridiculous.

Re: Film Thread VI
Modern blockbusters are pretty much all the same. The only difference is the template used. I haven't seen a 4/5 tentpole in a long time. Somehow I doubt that a new Jurassic Park film is going to appeal that way, especially since I gave JW 2/5 and the original 3 to 3.5. Each to their own.
Is JW sci fi? Of course you wouldn't compare it to Blade Runner 2 and Arrival (both pretty boring films to me btw, especially the latter).

Ok. Well it's kids sci-fi then, like Star Wars. Not a sci-fi based on ideas.

Re: Film Thread VI
The whole notion of cloning is not only a classic sci fi trope, but also a pretty significant 'idea' - but yes, the Jurassic Park/World films are primarily aimed at kids. And? Still not sure why you're being so sniffy about them, besides simply not liking them.
