Here's a pop fag choice. 'Hit Music' from the Pet Shop Boys' 'Actually' album. It's otherwise probbaly their best album (some say 'Very', but they're wrong), and every other track is damn near a minature masterpiece, but 'Hit Music'...what the fuck are they doing? It sounds like an attempt to do a radio-friendly disco-funk-rock song like 'Rock The Casbah' or something, and it stinks.

Bilingual and Behaviour are better than Very and Actually. One More Chance is a bit dodgy too.

Hmmm, I think of 'One More Chance' as a sort of warm-up track, but the dodgy '80s-ness of the production is quite apparent on that song, more so than on the others. 'Actually' was the first PSB I heard, so I suspect I rate it higher for that reason (a la Spiny's thread on this topic).

'Bilingual' is good, yes; it got horrible reviews because it was released at the height of B*****p and wasn't all chirpy cockneys and/or northern monkey men singing about nothing. 'Behaviour' is kind of overshadowed by 'Being Boring', which is among the top five best pop songs ever.

So Hard, My October Symphony and Jealousy are all great songs too.

Bilingual is my favourite, I like the contrast between the quasi-latin rhythms and the disenchantment of the lyrics. I also like the self reflexity of the songs, a looking back at their career stance.

Have you bought Pandemonium?

CELTIC FROST - One in Their Pride (Into the Pandemonium). Yes, it was something new, experimental and deliberately divisive. It was also complete bollocks.

The debut's the best by far. 5 fists.

London's Calling is very good but overrated. 3 fists.
The second album's also very good but underrated. 4 fists.
Sandanista and Combat Rock were dodgy but with some good songs. 2 fists each (maybe 3 for CR.)
Cut The Crap was unfortunate.

CR is definitely a 2 fist album IMO, and I would rate the second album higher than the first. Spot on about London Calling, Sandinista and Cut The Crap though.
