Manowar.
UK dates at last.

Now for the bad news.

Apparently they want £89 per ticket. Before fees.
After fees, £105.
Over £100 for an Academy date?
Even Rammstein in a football stadium is cheaper. Rammstein ffs.

I love Manowar, but Eric's voice isn't what it used to be, Joey's bass playing was sloppy as fuck back at the 2011 show, and Karl's browser history will probably mean they have to hire a cheap fill-in guitarist with a better haircut.

It's a no for me, Clive.

*Leaves the hall faster than Karl leaves an internet page after a knock at his bedroom door*

Not that I care, but the tour artwork is in the style of Triumph of Steel, and David Shankle has been in the press talking about shiz. It'll probably be him.

THE LINEUP:
I would imagine they will dangle all sorts of lucrative carrots in front of Ross to get him to do it. It's a fucking no-brainer and the ultimate send-off for the band. Rhino behind the kit. Job done. This really has the potential to be absolutely fucking killer.

THE SETLIST:
Fan favourites only? 99% is the Ross-era stuff anyway. Add to this the inevitable 'I'm not playing that kiddie-fiddler's shitty riffs' and you have a fucking awesome show. Stick Shankle in and play fucking Achilles. Every hall in the world will lose their shit.

THE FINAL ALBUM:
See above line-up. Go out on a mega high note. Joey adopting the classic bass sound again and none of this parpy keyboard shite. Basically, write Hail To England II. This would completely rule.

The best we can hope for is an album like Van Halen's A Different Kind of Truth. i.e vault tracks revamped.

 I don't even listen to them for years voluntararily but I always love that song Shell Shock! I do like some songs (Play On 10, FTW etc) but not many.

"Shell Shock" & "All Men Play on 10" are comfortably amongst the weakest tracks on their respective releases in my opinion blacky. Are you sure you're not missing out on the real gold like "Dark Avenger" or "Sign Of The Hammer"?

Battle Hymns, the song, is epic as fuck, and then you have Thor and Guyana on Sign. Bloody hell! Mighty tunes!

All Men Play On 10 is great novelty though. The fact that it even exists is enough.

Amen to that. Can we also erase their entire back catalogue from history?

I think that's pushing the truth a little bit to honest. Those first four Manowar albums each include some incredible songs but they're also notoriously unfocused & inconsistent with some serious duds scattered across the tracklistings. "Into Glory Ride" is the only one that manages enough consistency to qualify as a genuinely great album & even then it opens with the horriblly misguided "Warlord" which stands out like a sore thumb. The high quality material on "Battle Hymns" & "Sign Of The Hammer" is thankfully enough to balance out the duds & make them worth listening to but the God-awful production lets the massively overrated "Hail To England" down badly & I find it really tough going.

Hail To England has worse production than Into Glory Ride and Battle Hymn? That's a joke right?

Into Glory Ride is patchy, but the other 3 are quite consistently great to me, especially Hail and Sign.

I'm very surprised that you'd say that Stat. "Hail To England" has some of the worst production I've ever heard in my life. You can hardly hear the rhythm guitars under the overly loud bass guitar & the riffs are subsequently lost in the mix. "Sign Of The Hammer" didn't exactly sport a stellar production either but at least it was an improvement. "Into Glory Ride" was one of the heaviest records the world had heard to the time. I think the reason a lot of Manowar fans struggle with it is because it's darker, slower & less cheesy than Manowar's other records. These are actually all of the reasons I like it more.

The mix for Hail isn't that well balanced, true, but they were probably going for a 'thud' kind of sound where it was all about impact. They just didn't really have the budget to totally pull it off perhaps. It sounds a lot better on vinyl though, but I've never heard it referred to as one of the worst production jobs ever.

The biggest problem I have with Battle Hymns is the drums. They simply lack power.

The 'silver' editions of Battle Hymns, IGR and Hail sound great. Hail To England and SOTH were both recorded in the same session (apart from the title track on Sign). Mixed very differently, though.
I will agree the original CD versions of IGR and HTE sound fucking shite. And SOTH has always had a very strange mix to me. I doesn't even sound like it's mixed to stereo most of the time.

The mix of Sign is odd indeed, but at least you can hear space between the instruments.

I find that the rhythm guitars in "Sign Of The Hammer" are still nowhere near loud enough for my liking with Joey’s bass guitar comfortably dominating Ross in the mix. Joey’s sound gives the whole album a noticeably dirty quality & I’d have much prefered to hear a cleaner & brighter sounding Manowar. Thankfully this doesn’t make as big an impact it did on "Hail To England" & I can still enjoy the music despite it.

I actually like Joey's bass sound on Sign, especially on Thor and Guyana.

Unfortunately they brightened things too much on Fighting The World, but they got the balance right on the next few albums sonically.

I've actually listening to Warriors of The World lately. I'm convinced that if it included Dawn of Battle and had better sequencing it would have been relatively well received. There are some very good songs on there and the sound is quite good.

Dawn Of Battle was miles better than anything on the album. Still, I'm not a fan of the Logan era stuff and he's a nonce so fuck it.
