Has anyone heard the new album yet? If so, is it as godly as the last one?

I don't get the worship of this band tbh. As people have said on here before on paper they sound fucking excellent. But listening to them they're lackluster and boring.

Must have kept it well disguised before.

I said already about Grand Magus, they should be awesome. I really wanted them to rule as well. ....but they just never hit the real highs in their material. I had their last album (I think it was their last one anyway) and l can barely remember one thing off it! There's potential but they're a huge bag of meh for me.

Didn't wanna hate on your thread mark, just getting it rolling a bit for ya.

The songs come into their own when you see them live, there is a real sense of epic power there, but the album versions fall a little flat for me, although I enjoy them.

I'd believe it alright. Never had the chance to see them live though.

I will listen to this new one to see if they've changed from the pupa into the butterfly as it were.

The new one comes off a little undercooked. The last two had way more rollick to them. It's style quite tight, the songs are okay, but it's just a bit unremarkable. Maybe it'll be a grower but you have to say that Grand Magus don't really write that way; they tend to be pretty immediate. I guess when they play live the new stuff might be a bit more stirring.

3 fist song.

Ok hooks, fine structure and all that. Hearts in the right place with what it's trying to do. Has the nuts and bolts to be pretty good but doesn't deliver. No hairs on the back of the neck standing up, no desire to punch the air, no urge to air drum.

Exactly. All the songs are properly functional, but where is the WOOF?

I prefer Spiritual Beggars, but have loved the last two Magus albums as well. Iron Will had a few needless interlude fillers but otherwise was a great album. The only clash for me at Wacken last year was GM on at the same time as Heaven and Hell. I opted for the latter but seeing as I doubt the Magus will ever make it to these shores it was rather annoying.

I like Grand Magus but I don't think they are as godly as all that.

I might bother listening to the last two Grand Magus albums, if Doomsword didn't exist. Their debut was just dreadful, though.

I actually thought the last Doomsword was a little underwhelming...I'll stick to the one that's a concept album about the Viking siege of Yorvik...

Was their last one My Name Will Live On? The one that featured one of the best Heavy Metal songs ever written, The Steel Of My Axe?

Grand Magus are excellent live. I saw them at the first Hard Rock Hell at Butlins in front of about 30 people, (everyone else was watching Saxon), and it was brilliant headbanging fun.
Only got the first album though, which isn't that good.

To Richie you listen mark. Doomsword's My Name Will Live On gets 5 unadulterated chain-mail clad fists clenching steel axes (of course.)
