Just shimming through, sounds pretty proper. Will dive in further. Thanks, Stat. BTW, are you from Australia or the UK? Not that it matters, I always assumed you were British. I'm pretty slow though.

He's Australian. I can tell that you've never listened to his podcast. ;)

He's Aussie, like Baphomet. Can't you tell from how slowly he writes? :P

Speaking of Australia - does anyone recall an Aussie hard rock band from 92 that had a minor MTV hit. The video featured a guy swinging a sword around the desert. This is totally random I know, but I remember liking the song as a 12 year old.

We need Shallow back to critique his moves with that blade.

Awful, awful song. Where did Aussie rock go? :(

Skyclad supported on that tour and were brilliant.

So they played the Civic and the Woughton Centre, how bizarre is that?

Yes Skyclad were great, I still remember the overpowering smell of leather. Did you get the endless interval too. Must have been an hour of brooding classical music.... IIRC.

The 87 Dublin show was only half-full, too. Mind you, over the years it's become one of those things like Woodstock with everyone claiming to have been there. There would have been at least 3000 people stuck in the SFX at the time were all these wankers telling the truth. Support came from Chariot and local shite Winter's Reign.

I remember Chariot on ECT, they had one good song... When the Moon Shines? Something like that. I remember Kerrang! calling them the future of metal. Hahahahahahaha.

They were 'serviceable' HM and nothing more. A NWOBHM band that arrived 5 years too late.

Yeah, course now they would be called 'Chariots of Fire Blazing Across the Sky in a Triumphant Arc of Repentlessness'... or something equally stupid.

Yeah, it must have been over an hour between Skyclad going off and Manowar coming on. If I remember right, wasn't their intro music a combination of Basil Poledouris's Conan the Barbarian soundtrack and some kind of strange Tibetan horn thing? I'm sure I even remember some whale song too. :?

Could be. It wasn't played very loud at MK, sort of just about audible... very odd. I don't really get the need for the delay, no doubt Joey would have some bullshit story about needing to properly prime the A or some such horseshit.

First 6 with Ross.

Achilles on the Triumph of Steel is worth a listen too.

The general consensus among Manowar fans is that the first 7 are the essential. The elitists would say just the first 4.

Think of it like Metallica's first 4 or 5 are the essential, kind of like that.

I would say you should begin with Into Glory Ride (#2), Hail to England (#3) and Sign of the Hammer (#4). Then move to Kings of Metal. Then, if you want more of the raw, early sound go for Battle Hymns, if you liked Kings of Metal, go for Fighting the World and The Triumph of Steel. Keep away from every other album, except for Warriors of the World (if you really need more). And that's it.
