There are some decent tracks scattered across both albums, maybe not a full album's worth but you could put a decent EP/mini-LP together from them (which is more than can be said for Turbo/RID/ROS). The big issue isn't Halford's absence, it's the attempt to sound 'modern' on some tracks.

Yes it sounds forced. Halford successfully sounded 'modern' on the Fight albums, Crucible and on at least half of Two's Voyeurs, but his band mates failed dismally.

Halford went about it the right way by recruiting much younger musicians and collaborating with them. Ripper was much younger than KK and Tipton but he wasn't hired to bring much to the table. He was just there to sing.

He was fucking brilliant live, though.

Totally agree. He blows Halford away TBH.

Correct.

Incorrect. Killing Machine is just not a 5 fist record, sorry. It's got some great songs but I have always felt it's a little too insubstantial. Doesn't help that it's sandwiched between the groundbreaking Stained Class and the quintessential British Steel.

Ram It Down and Turbo as I've mentioned before are JP's nadir, 1 fist and 1.5 fists respectively.

Angel Of Retribution is pretty damn strong, easily their best post 1990 effort. I even like Loch Ness. 4.5 fists. Nostradamus isn't as good but it's not a 2 fist album, 3.5 is more accurate.

Oh for god's sake they're not that bad really.

Just wanted to agree that Killing Machine isn't a 5 fist LP...carry on

I'm sure we've all wondered what the Guardian's favourite Judas Priest songs are, well wonder no more:

It's an ok song. If you wanted a non-obvious one from Nostradamus, 'Exiled' would be better imo. That might be for a top 100 Priest song list though.

Maybe Halford in the last 15 or so years. Definitely not better than Halford in his prime.

Toothless saccharine thrash-lite for zitty late-to-the-party guitar shop fags.

The Ripper era was total shit. Turbo is 3 fists of pop metal.
