Post 90's Hardcore. (Metallic, Power Violence, Skate Punk. etc)
Right so I'm trying to fill holes in my bands list of things to check out. Personally I love stuff like Deadguy and Integrity, and I'd say I've got a firm grasp on dipping into Power Violence. But I'd like some more suggestions from people who were there, or just love music from that decade.

Feel free to facilitate discussion too. I'm just trying to broaden my knowledge!

Subject too broad, brain overloaded.

As in post about whatever takes your fancy related to that, I'm just interested in trying to discuss something other than the usual. It's more whatever elements interested you about hardcore in the 90's if it did at all.

I have Firestorm EP, and Ringworm are one of my favourite bands.

I'm fairly in love with the Holy Terror sound, new and old. I'm quite a big fan of Gehenna and Integrity, but other than that I'm not really sure who else is worth checking out with that sort of sound.

Crossface and Steel NAtion are a couple of good modern exponents.

As for that 90's Metalcore kind of sound, fuck, there are a TONNE of bands. Especially from Europe.

I only really know of like Arkangel from the 90's Euro sound if I'm honest!

Not all of these are actually European but they are all good exponents of 'proper', quality Metalcore:

Liar, Abhinanda, xCANAANx, Abnegation, Contempt, early Caliban, Dawn Of Orion, Prayer For Cleansing, Racetraitor, 7 Angels 7 Plagues, Undying, Morning Again, Tears Of Gaia.

For starters.

My fav '90s hc album:

Image

(Citizen's Arrest- Colossus).
none of these are the best tracks on the album (like "Activate" and "Number"), but this is all I could find on youtube:

Some others I like a lot:

Rorschach (both their albums are good, but the "Needlepack" ep is my fav)

His Hero Is Gone (sure you've heard them- everyone seems to cite them as an influence)

Born Against
(sound like a cross between Black Flag and '90s discordant hardcore with Poison Idea's Jerry A on vocals)

Of course there were the more metallic ones like Strife, Blood For Blood and Overcast- they were all pretty good.

For less popular ones that you might not have heard of,
There was a band called Non Compos Mentis who had an album called "Smile When You Hate" who I thought were very underrated.

I liked Piecemeal a lot- they had an album and a splot with a band called Die My Will who were ok. I think some of the members went on to be in Hope Conspiracy and maybe Bury Your Dead.

Damad was awesome- had both female and male vocalists (female vocalist sounded like a baby lion or something). They put out several albums plus a split w/ Meatjack (also an interesting band). I think members went on to be in Kylesa, but I like Damad a lot better.

Unruh was really good. Put out a couple of albums and eps...

The Scarlet Letter were a short lived but awesome band from the end of the '90s

So there's a bunch of different sounds- which ones do you like the best, so I'll know more of what you're looking for...

Seconded both. These were more what I liked in the 90's than the Earth Crisis type of hc. Dunno if you'd like them but there was also Grimple, Tunnel Rats, Beanflipper, The Pist, Drunken Mishaps, Charles Bronson, Quarantine, Failure Face, Urko, Logical Nonsense, GG Allin, Code 13, State Of Fear, Scatha, Doom, DS-13, Sedition, Disaffect, Spazz, Cress, etc. etc. etc. All had very good releases in the 90's.

It was never really my kind of thing, but I was really into this album in around '96-97ish. It sounded ahead of its time for me, though I never paid enough attention to that kind of thing to know how far, or how long it took people to catch up.

'Feel The Darkness' and 'Lights, Camera, Revolution' are clearly classics from whatever the capital city of the Land Of Classics is, but I'd imagine AMJ has heard them.

Would tentatively recommend extremely punishing and uber fucked up cult heroes Thoughts Of Ionesco, the only point of comparison I can think of is early Coalesce, but taken to the nth degree.
