Indeed, 'acquiring' it now. I have low expectations.

Gave it one spin so far and I can't say that I'm disappointed. To me it's what The Plague Within, despite me liking that record, should have been perhaps. This time it's pretty much all doom while ''Blood and Chaos'' has a bit of a gothic-y vibe and I'm not sure whether the harsh vocals on there really fit. Greg certainly wasn't kidding when he described this record as less instant and more of a grower. The album opener is weird, too - it doesn't really feel like it's eight and halve minutes long despite its length. I'm also surprised that Nick Holmes decided to growl a lot more this time. Perhaps he realized that he's just better at the harsh vocals than at singing.

I think it's the opposite. I prefer him to sing or do his Icon style vocals. I'm not too crazy about his growls.

^^Has anyone heard or picked this up yet? It has already been 20 years sincs its original release. I was addicted to it back then. I found it interesting, challenging and a bold move for the band overall. Some of the production has dated, but overall it has stood up, although I wish this was their first major label album rather than Host. It would have stood a better chance of breaking through.

I'm not picking up this version because it doesn't come packaged with the original demos as bonus material which were apparently VERY different from the final versions of those songs. Gregor claims that Mercy, for example, was written as a hard rock song with a punkish edge.

New album then, I've heard it once. I don't think it's as good as Plague Within... just sounds too much like Gothic to me.

Got to disagree on that one. There's more ''rocking'' riffs on here that you couldn't find on Gothic. ''From the Gallows'' does sound a bit more like old school PL, but then again, Greg said he build that song up from musical bits he found on an old tape which is suppose to originate from 1989.

You're surprisingly disciplined, Tragic Idol.

Personally I pirate new albums right away once I get the chance. ]:)

Hi!

<:) I was there too, i just dont like when albums leaked even until first videoclip is released. Leaks like this is really harmful fact for the bands on the PL level. Not only because 'i will listen then i will decide will i buy it or not' is limp argument, but also not everybody who illegally listened to the albums will by legal copies then. Also, some people would make hype on a negative and just post crappy opinion after a first listen. ever :)

As for me, I've downloaded TI and TPW on the day when it was leaked but buy Ltd. editions then ;) I am learning to be desciplined by seeing how it works from the band's perspective.

For me its interesting to read your review of Medusa in Sept.

I actually decided to write down my thoughts on the album...which is suppose to turn into an actual review for another website. I could PM you about it later.

Listened to it properly this evening. Boring, repetitive, heard it all before but with better vocals. Crap album.

I'm in no rush. I've been rediscovering their older albums. I'll buy Medusa when it comes out in September.

Same.

Here is new PL video. Out today. Directed by the guy who filmed vid for "Beneath Broken Earth" and for a new VF, "The merciless tide".

I see ''Blood and Chaos'' as a better version of "Cry out" from The Plague Within. Drums ace, guitars sounds scratchy.Vocals got signature drive. Interesting to listen to the whole thing later.

Seeing as I don't have to spend time writing a proper album review, I'll keep this short.

Boring, repetitive, and utterly forgettable.

I like the new album, but I think Blood & Chaos is pretty lame actually. Catchy in a bad way.

You know, my problem with the modern PL stuff is that it sounds great at first but doesn't really have much longevity. ''Gods of Ancient'', ''From the Gallows'' and the title track are top notch tracks. The rest is ok but doesn't do much. I still think ''Blood & Chaos'' is shite and the opening track really didn't have to be eight minutes long. ''Daylight Thorn'' is a much better track, but this one sounds like a stretched out ''Beneath Broken Earth'' with some extra song sections thrown in or so. I'll probably give the album a 3,5 fists for now.
