I think My Dying Bride do this sort of thing better.
what are you talking about?
Music.
cap
they are different enough(and yes, friends from a long time, too). By the way, if my memory working good, you rate Shades Of God as 3 fists album? Or how?
and what do you thinking about My Dying Bride "Evinta" album? no parralells with Paradise Lost - Host? Another experiment, hehe.
MDB more boring for me, anyway

Oh for god's sake, stick Type O's best of (aka 'October Rust') on and have done with it. PL are clodhopping pish.

Re: PARADISE LOST
I always judged Paradise Lost to be better than both My Dying Bride and Anathema because they were never afraid to put their foot down and "rock out", for want of a better expression. Much more energy, not to mention better songs and more memorable guitar playing.

Re: PARADISE LOST
I think I've seen PL eleven times now:
Rock City 1993 (supporting Sepultura) Wolverhampton 1994 Rock City 1994 (with Die Krupps) Milton Keynes 1995 (secret gig) Dudley 1999 Dudley 2001 Dudley 2003 Wolverhampton 2004 Hammersmith 2005 (supporting Nightwish) Dudley 2005 Wolverhampton 2009 (with Katatonia)
The best ones were probably the Dudley ones, particularly the 1999 one. I've often thought they weren't the best live band, visually, but great songs. Aaron has always put 100% in every time I've seen them. He's the only one who seems to really love being on stage.
As we already know, Host is the best album. Icon is good, Draconian is hugely overrated and tedious. Paradise Lost is very good and Symbol of Life is a cracker. Their two best songs are 'One Second' and 'Say Just Words'.

Oh lord.
I also saw them when they were touring Draconian Times, they were pretty good then but, as you'd imagine, it was mainly DT, Icon & SOG songs with maybe Gothic & Eternal thrown in. Half empty venue, too.

Never heard them after the synth-pop album. Are they playing metal again?

Here Mali slips further and further into self-parody.

Type O Negative. a band from the 90's whose music has stood up about as well as early Paradise Lost.
No thanks.
I also prefer Paradise Lost to MDB, for some of the reasons Shallow mentioned above.
Having said that, MDB were probably more original, and they were far better at the death/doom style than P.L.
As influential as 'Gothic' was, it isn't a patch on 'Turn Loose The Swans'.

5 fist Anathema: Silent Enigma, Alt 4, Judgement, We're Here Because We're Here. 4 fist Anathema: Eternity, Fine Day To Exit, Natural Disaster
5 fist mid-period PL: Icon. With a different track listing, maybe Draconian would have been, but it isn't. 4 fists for Shades and DT
5 fist Darren-era Anathema: Pentecost III (which is about as damn close to 6 fists as anything). 4 fist Serenades and Crestfallen.
5 fist MDB: Turn Loose The Swans. Strong 4 fists for Angel and the Dark River and Light at the End of the World. Mix of 3 and 4 fists for the rest
EDIT: Drop in quality from this point downwards
3 fists: Gothic
EDIT: Big drop in quality lives here...
2 fists - 0 fists: One Second and beyond PL

Re: PARADISE LOST
Never heard any Paradise Lost, but from the tracks i've heard in this thread they're not for me.

Symbol of life is cracker but One Second and SjW not their best. you just love these 2 songs more then other stuff, because they are catchy for listener.

'One Second' is a great album imo, but i don't like it nearly as much as i did back in 1997. not sure if i overplayed it, or that it just isn't as good as i once thought.
either way, it's still one of their best to me, and should have been their major label debut, rather than 'Host'.
