Hmm, hard to keep this from being a long list of band names, but a couple of bands on Century Media (yes, really) that are worth checking out: Turmoil and Kickback. The former were ahead of their time and sadly underappreciated, Kickback was just OTT metallic hardcore but I love their albums and they really fucked off the HC scene so that is a bonus.

I liked Turmoil a lot (they were kind of like Trial that someone mentioned before), but never heard Kickback (tho I love the Breakdown song)...

Used to love Imprint by Vision of Disorder. Up In You, Jada Bloom, By The River were classics. Not heard it in years.

Don't remember too much from the first album apart for the songs Viola

I really don't know fuck all about all the other bands mentioned in this one, what exactly is power violence?

New name for new arrivals to identify with. Makes it feel like it's "theirs", and separates them from whatever it was called before they were into it.

Except it's been around as long as grindcore, was distinctly different and had a different fanbase.

Indeed. Power Violence is very much what happens when 90's Hardcore kids with long hair, who didn't identify with the short hairs took too much meth, skated a lot and loved Metal as much as punk. Power Violence being what they came up with.

Just thinking of 90s hardcore bands from the U.K. and Ireland, oh man, there’s so much good stuff.

Leatherface
Voorhees
Scatha
Health Hazard/Suffer
Disaffect
Sedition
Bleeding Rectum
Suicidal Supermarket Trollies
Doom
Excrement Of War
Coitus

All good shit

Gotta include some D-beat in all of this:

... and don't forget Hard to Swallow:

... and Iron Monkey:

... and pretty much the whole of the Household Name roster of the time, before they became a ska label.
