Some others:

Tony Iommi - Only spoke to him for a moment but he was polite and very, very Brummie.

Sonata Arctica - Nice blokes but dull as fuck.

Dark Tranquillity - Brilliant blokes. Sang an impromtu duet of Holy Diver with their bass player backstage at Kreator.

Martin Walkyier - Friendly, intelligent, good salesman.

Andy Sneap - Funny bloke. Always up for a chat.

Corrupted - Complimented them after their show in London a couple of years ago. Two of them shook my hand and then bowed at me. I'd never been bowed at before so I returned the compliment. They seemed happy with it so I'm fairly sure I didn't offend them.

Nevermore - Nice chaps.

Hatesphere - See Sonata Arctica.

Met Brent and Brann of Mastodon - Brann was cool, Brent was an arse.

Said hi to Mike Patton and Bill Gould of Faith No More at The Phoenix Festival. They were carrying armfuls of beer but both still managed to smile and say hi.

Alexi Laiho - Friendly bloke. Swears a lot.

Paul Bostaph - spoke to him after a Testament gig back in '04. After a quick chat he went backstage and grabbed me a drumstick. He knelt down to give it me, I took it and then for no apparent reason grabbed his knee and shook it like a friendly dog. He looked at me strangely for a moment before I answered his look with "well, you were in Slayer". Like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Spoke to Chuck briefly afterwards. I didn't touch him though.

Karl Sanders - Really nice chap. Always makes time to speak to people.

Evile - Met all the band apart from Matt. Spent about fifteen minutes chatting to Ben the drummer about his aborted rugby career, Mike about footy (he was a Liverpool fan) and how playing the bass was all a bit rubbish really. He died a few weeks later. :(

Chris Slade (former AC/DC) - Great bloke. Told me details about Black Ice months before it was even announced.

Schmier (Destruction) - Friendly, quiet. Tall as fuck.

Kimberly Goss (Sinergy) - I would.

Floor Jansen (After Forever) As above. But with more vigour.

The rest of After Forever - Don't really remember tbf.

3 Inches of Blood - Polite and excitable.

Joel O'Keefe (Airbourne) - One of the friendliest blokes I've ever met. Met him first at a small gig in Brum. Eight months later they played the main Academy and at the end of the show he jumped over the barrier, ran over to me and gave me a massive hug. Awesome guy. And very sweaty.

Justin Street (Airbourne) - The only person I've ever seen get more pissed than Herman Li and yet still be able to hold a conversation.

Herman Li (Dragonforce) - The ultimate pisshead. Great bloke.

The rest of Dragonforce - Nice guys apart from Sam Totman who has the mind of a ten year old.

Entombed - LG was friendly and funny. The drummer was knackered and stoned.

Jaret Reddick (Bowling For Soup) Funny as fuck and just as friendly.

Chris Van Malmsteen (Bowling for Soup) - Fat as fuck and just as friendly.

Jeff Walker - Didn't actually speak to him myself but stood next to him as he spoke to a few of my mates at Damnation a few years ago. Spoke nicely enough to Abandoner's sister but acted like a bit of a twat with everybody else tbh.

Joel Grind (Toxic Holocaust) - Really nice bloke. Chatted to him about his love of Onslaught.

Maitri (Christian Death) - Had a conversation with her tits and fishnet stockings. Nice girl, probably.

Iscariah (Immortal) - Quiet and not even remotely scary.

Edenbridge - Sang Raining Blood and Master of Puppets very loudly with them in the pub before they played upstairs a bit later.

I never met Dave Mustaine, but I observed him whilst my mate was in a queue to meet him at Music Live a few years back. He seemed like a bit too arrogant for my liking. He sat there, didn't take his sun glasses of, barely said a word to anyone, looked like he resented being there. And then he signalled that he'd had enough just before my mate got to him. I wouldn't mind but there were probably 7 people left in the queue, it's not like it was getting any bigger, as everyone who wanted to see him had done. It'd probably have taken all of about 5 minutes to clear the queue.

All the Finns I have met have been pretty cool and seriously love to drink (and were pretty darn sexy for the most part). Some Finns I met in my university first year were complaining about how shitty UK clubs are because they close at 2 or 3am. 5 or 6 at the earliest in Finland apparently.

I hope you informed them that British licencing hours contributed to the fact that Europe hasn't been run by Emperor Adolf for the past 50 odd years!

Whilst they were having a right old laugh drinking whenever they wanted in their neutral country, we were fighting a war for freedom!

I hope you then recited Churchill's speech to them (oh, no,no, no!) and then walked off singing Aces High!!!

Again, a quick Bruce Dickinson impression and she'd have been putty in your hands!

Failed to Find Lamb of God a "decent" takeaway that does pizza and not just Kebabs.
Slow danced on Pink Floyd drummer's feet at a funeral. (I was a kid)
Stalked Dani Filth and family round a factory outlet place in Essex. Wouldn't normally do this only I'd just seen the guy in the hospital bed opposite my grandad die in a flurry of doctors and tubes and needed some kind of distraction. The Filths bought some Armani underwear and possibly a Lou Reed CD.

Remembered a couple of others.

I met Chinatown-era Thin Lizzy at a signing session. Phil Lynott was a top, top bloke and Scott Gorham had a foul mouth.

I also somehow managed to blag a backstage pass for Blackfoot's gig at the Brum Odeon in 82. Me and about 3 or 4 others sat drinking beer and chatting with the band til about 2am. Rickie Medlocke is a great story teller and all the band were all really cool.

Post Re: Metal/Rockstars - who's met someone famous?
alright, i'll play but i don't have much

talked with Matt Pike after one of their shows, he was very kind, quite sweet actually, gave me a sweaty hug and politely withstood my gushing fangirl crap, then i spoke with Jeff Matz who was also very kind, polite, nervous and probably wishing he was off drinking rather than talking to a half pissed fangirl

stood in front of Erik Danielsoon as we both watched Eyehategod perform, which meant that he couldnt see shit since im about 6 inches taller than him - i was too drunk to talk to him and really what is there to say to a guy who has only cleaned some of the blood off his face "hi i love your satanic lyrics and all that blood, keep up the good work"? which would have come out more like "christ ilove your band mumble mumble" and my towering over him somehow intimidated my drunken brain so i fell down on the job there

spoke with Scott Hull, really nice guy, very approachable and happy to be there sort of guy, told him he had beautiful tattoos and drank a shot he bought

stood 4 feet away from John Dyer Baizley on a sidewalk in front of a shitty little venue, he stared back at me with what can only be described as a wild eyed look (i was one of only 4 people there at the time, where else was he going to look) and just as i was gathering the nerve to tell him i admired his art work and fucking love his band, he took his wild eyed look and wildly messy hair back into the van from whence he came

told Mustaine he was a fucking cock and asked him what it's like to have one of the worst voices in metal - oh wait that's just the fantasy i was engaged in while i stood level with and 2 feet off the end of the stage he was playing on, imagining all the people that would rather be in my shoes and me in their's

keep running into a former premier of my province at the symphony and talk to him each time, however briefly

there's probably more but can't remember atm

I hope all these people we've met were before the Judas Priest joke, otherwise there is a lot of letting the side down going on!

Did you refuse to continue the conversation until he screamed "it is... time... for tea!"? If not, why not?

I couldn't get a word in edgeways! I asked "how are you?" and he didn't stop talking for over 30 minutes! Off the fags, you see.
