Post Download Festival....
Just had a look at the Download line up and oh my Christ on a bike. First of all we've got Metallica playing the Black album.... then we've got 3/4s of Black Sabbath.... so far so fucking tedious. Then we've got a load of bands I've frankly never heard and so I decided to listen to them on You Tube.

Biffy Clyro. I'm not going to slag them off because they are plainly not metal and so are not aimed at me, but for fucks sake it's like that bloke of Coast doing a Proclaimers cover.

Billy Talent. Very average.

Black Veil Brides I have heard of cos Metal Hammer said they were shit. Turns out they were right. Fuck me, just check out this video and tell me you weren't expecting those vocals to kick in after the first two lines?

Predictable, in any language.

Now look, I'm an old bastard and I know that okay, I'm not slagging BVB off cos I don't like them, I'm slagging them off cos they are so fucking derivative it's not even funny.

And yet their tour sold out.

What is wrong with today's children?

Anyway, back to Download.

So the three headliners are Sabbath (70s) Metallica (80s) Prodigy (90s). When is someone from the last fifteen years going to step up to the plate? Is it really going to fall to Trivium to be the future of Stadium metal?

Five Finger Death Punch are shit too.
FYI.

I think where I to go I'd see

Chase and Status, I'm not a fan as such, but my mate put their new album on in the car when it first came out and it wasn't bad.
NOFX, Not like a big fan as such, but I have a few albums I really quite like.
Nightwish, I don't mind them, and compared to everything else on their not that bad.
Opeth, seen them 5 or 6 times already, but I'm curious to see how the new stuff works live, but I don't think I'd be bothered to see them on their own any more, more a case of watching them cause they're on.
Little Angels, purely cause I had a couple of rarish 12" single box sets, and I think one in a tin.
Devin, even though I don't really like him, there's not a lot of other choice.
Trivium, I'm actually quite partial to their debut and Crusade, and it's been a good 4 or 5 years since I last saw them.
Sabbath, because even though it won't be the full package, it's still sabbath songs.
Anthrax, not a massive fan, but I don't mind them.

however I'm not going, and to be honest I have no intention of doing either. To expensive/crowded for my liking.

In what way is bloodstock worse than download?

There's less people making for a nicer atmosphere, there's always room to pitch a tent (something a few say they've struggled with in the past at download), and the bands (even if this year has been a bit weak) are considerably better than download.

I meant that Bloodstock is the pick of the bunch.

Well, in this instance I wouldn't say no to seeing Devin, Soundgarden and the Prodigy, but fuck festivals, really.

Ah I see. In terms of regular outdoor fests, I would have to agree.
It was just with you posting that after olp said "I can't think of anything worse than Download." I assumed that you mean bloodstock was worse. apologies for the misunderstanding.

No need for an apology. We're talking over computers, so we're bound to get a few things tangled up.
