2 Minutes To Midnight is one of their most tiresome 80s songs, for me. There had already been about fifty tunes with that riff in it by 1984. Die With Your Boots On shits all over it. Also, Back In The Village needs a trim, and Losfer Words was always an over-promoted b-side.

For the record, the order of merit as of 12/12:

1. s/t
2. POM
3. AMOLAD
4. SSOASS
5. K
6. P
7. NOB
8. SIT
9. DOD
10. TFF
11. NPFTD
12. BNW
13. FOTD
14. TXF
15. VXI

I saw them in London on that tour, and it was most excellent. London screamed for Bruce many times.

The title track, when it smashes in after the intro and drum roll - possibly the most metal moment of their career.

Absolutely. It's one of those songs that never suffers from overplaying. I love how the chorus builds too. It's just magic. As far as I can remember my experience of Maiden was seeing the video for "bring your daughter" then Can I play with Madness then Holy Smoke onto buying Fear of the Dark. So people will say I picked up on their worst era but for me it's special.

I remember taping a performance from BBc2 I think back in around 92? Possibly Bruces last performance. It had that illusionist Clive something? from Secret Cabaret involved. That was my introduction to their older material. Anyone know if that was released on dvd?

That must be brilliant, getting into a band via their shitest songs, that would be like getting into Priest on the strength of Demolition and then realising, hey...

Maiden need to stop writing 8 minute plus bollocks and pen some singles again. And no more fucking bass intros, for fucks sake. Enough already. Yes the bass bit in ROTAM is amazing, but it's been done to fucking death and never remotely as well.

FACT DEALT.

I felt an emotion. It was contempt.

'Virus' is better than most of the post-reunion stuff. Especially Dance of fucking Death.

Yeah. Having seen Maiden about ten times, they have always played this song, and whilst I really like it, I'd like to see some others. It's on every live album too. They could just as easily throw in Sea of Madness just to make a change, but then we've all said that lots.

I really like Losfer. I thought it quite cool them dipping back into instrumentals, and I certainly like it as much as Transylvania and Ghengis. Die is a great track too, completely agree.

I read an interview from a few years ago with Harris and someone asked him why they'd never done Alexander live, and apparently Adrian can't remember the solo at the beginning. I suspect it was a joke, but it'd be quite funny if that was the reason.

I'm not even going to comment on this, I'm just going to leave it here uneditted to make sure that everyone has seen it.

It doesn't need commenting on. It's just a silly thing to say.

Blaze was dealt a rough blow really. Whilst with hindsight I don't personally think he was the right choice, I was excited at the time and his voice did sound cool in Wolfsbane, but X Factor really suffered with Harris' production, and after that the song writing also went to complete shit.

Sign of the Cross and even some of the other tracks from X Factor sound great live with Bruce doing them as the music sounds fuller, but even Futureal sounds shit with Bruce on.

Virus is a terrible song, and is right up there with Virtual XI for just being completely shite. None are as bad as Angel and Gambler, but stuff like Lightening Strikes Twice, which should have been cool is just clumsy sounding and a bit arse. Even Clansman would be a throwaway Maiden by numbers track on any other album. A real dip in quality control over that period, suggesting that Adrian and Bruce contributed a lot more than people necessarily realise or that Harris admitted to at that time.

Every new year day my lass' family meet up to drink and have a second Xmas type celebration.

I've told her I can't make it as I'm working, so I can get blind drunk on my own and charge around my flat singing along to my new Live After Death DVD...
