Fellas, Paris isn't saying that the DoD cover is good. He's not comparing DoD's cover to the previous Maiden covers. He's actually saying that DoD's cover is shit, and Maiden's music is even worse. In other words, he doesn't like Iron Maiden; he's said this explicitly in the past.

The Book Of Souls has their first decent cover art since Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son. All of the intervening releases have had shit covers.

Decent? It's like a passport photo of Eddie except this time he's a Mayan. He's not doing anything. He's just plonked there for the cover. Considering how much potential there is for cool Mayan imagery, it's pretty weak really. I preferred the covers for Brave and Final.

This. The Book of Souls was a bland, lazy cover. Mirrors the content to be heard inside.

Seventh Son Of a Seventh Son are shit title for an album. Sounds like a holy bible of a 'Marvel universe' ;)

The title was great, the concept was cool too, the cover was fantastic. The problem was the encroaching gayness in the music.

I guess Tradge doesn't know the history of the 7th son of a 7th son in mythology across various cultures which of course relates to the number 7.

and i agree the music was on the downslope from the pinnacle of SIT, if only very slightly...

Well, that was a retarded way of putting it then. And who doesn't like (good) Maiden? Even more disturbing.

Seventh Son is a great album, come on people.

Eddie as a passport photo, that's good! But it's still a nice portrait, Iron Maiden's cover also hasn't got a lot going on but it's iconic. Not that I'm crazy about the BoS cover, it is rather boring but it's still a step forward. Final Frontier may have some action but Eddie looks like a mix between Snaggletooth and Predator and nothing like Eddie, I HATE that cover. Brave New World and AMOLAD have decent covers but still nothing like the glorious stuff by Riggs. Truly incomprehensible, you have this guy who has drawn a goldmine and a host of uber-classic covers and artwork in general and they choose to go with all that shit they have over the past two decades. It' like they're actively TRYING.

So, did they peak with DoD? Do we have any other contestants?

Book Of Souls isn't a great cover but at least the limited colour colour palette are a little more vivid than it has been in a while.

I don't like the cover of AMOLAD at all. It looks corny and cheap.

Brave New World is good though

God save my sweety! Absoutely!
p.s. It would be fine title for the next Iron Maiden album ^

P.S.2 Is there exists some background of Eddie? or it just some kind of Death symbol or what?

DoD would have had a great cover if they'd actually let Dave Patchett do the painting he originally intended and not just decided to use the mock-up computer sketch which was only meant to be his rough outline.

Patchett did such a good job on Cathedral's artwork, him doing a Maiden album would have been awesome. The band really screwed up there big time.

Virtual XI is the worst Maiden artwork, no question.

Absolutely. Terrible decision on their part.

Yes. It's just a bunch of crap that doesn't belong together shoved in the same frame.

He's called Eddie because he just started out as a head ('ead=Ed).

The idea that Brave New World is an undisputed 5/5 is ridiculous. It's not a consensus classic by any stretch. It does have a few fan favourites, but it's not generally spoken of in the same way that their 80's classics are.

except on here of course.

Brave New World was a decent Maiden album. Yes the songs are too fucking long, but it's the only one you could conceivably put alongside the early albums (ie pre-SSOASS). That everything since BNW has been fairly dire (still haven't heard the new one, but given how terrible TFF was.... I can't really be arsed) has only served to make BNW look even better than it actually was. This is my only explanation for the 5 fists brigade. It's a 4 fist and not a finger more, but alongside TFF it looks like a 5 fister. Alongside NOTB it looks like a three fister.

I like TFF more than BNW.

Really? I found it painful to listen to. In fact I would much rather listen to The World Needs a Hero than TFF.

I can't agree with you there Mali. "The Final Frontier" is a good couple of steps up from "The World Needs A Hero" in my opinion.

Obviously. 4/5 vs. 2/5 at best.
