Reusing riffs has been endemic in not only old blues but as far back as baroque. JSBach continually reused and refitted musical themes to suit a new purpose, although most typically from his own work. I'm no expert so I can't speak to how much he may have used the work of others but he did do it.
Apologies if that's already been covered by someone else in this thread, I haven't read the whole thing.
Yeah, I suppose you only have to look at someone like Vaughan Williams who's most famous works include orchestration of folk songs (English Folk Song Suite, A Norfolk Rhapsody, Five Varients of Dives and Lazarus etc), and his Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis.
That does sound quite similar, Hostage to Heaven is quality, even if it is the same riff near enough repeated the entire song.

It's pretty blatant, they even put the little gap with the floor tom hit in near the start...and if that wasn't enough, the drum intro is reminiscent of Torque de Merte or whatever it's called. Good album though,....
Hostage to Heaven is top notch stuff, as is a lot of Grip's stuff, very underrated band.

Arrangements of folk tunes is hardly "blatant theft" - rearranging tunes is the entire point of folk music.
That was in response to LR saying about classical music reusing ideas and motifs, I was just giving some context. I'm not saying he stole them, I'm saying even someone as well respected as Vaughan Williams used the melodies of others in his own works without it being frowned upon.

Sepultura's "Just One Fix" sounds just like Rammstein's "Du Hast".

You mean Rammstein's Links 234 sounds like Ministry's Just One Fix.

Yep. It's all the same shit to me. And there's another Rammstein song which sounds like something off Metallica's "And Justice For All". Can't remember which song, and I'm not listening to Rammstein to find out.

Re: Blatant theft of ideas and riffs
THe most obvious one to me, and one I've mentioned on here a few times, is Sister's Of Mercy's 'When You Don't See Me', whose main riffs sounds suspiciously similar to the main riff in Dio's 'Rainbow In The Dark'. it is rarely ever commented on though. Perhaps there aren't a lot of people that like both Sisters and Dio? hah.
^^I love both songs too.

Motorhead - No Class. They stole the main riff from a ZZ Top song, "Tush".

"Stole" might be a bit strong. Lemmy has always said what a big fan of ZZ Top he is.
Green Jelly ripped off Ace Of Spades on "Obey The Cow God", but they pinched stuff from Metallica and other bands anyway.

A bit off topic, but the Hell Awaits cover is a rip-off of some Moebius artwork...
