A bit off topic, but the Hell Awaits cover is a rip-off of some Moebius artwork...

Check out the section from 1:33 to 2:24 in this early Dark Angel track from 1985:

Does it remind anyone of this classic thrash metal anthem from 1983:

Or how about the chorus riff in this early Kreator song from 1985:

Does it sound not too dissimilar to the chorus from this one from earlier the same year:

I've always thought Prodigal Sun by Maiden, owed something to Gordon Giltrap's Heartsong... and it's not like they could deny any knowledge of him is it. Seeing as they knicked his logo and the title 'Fear of the Dark' off him!

^ Definitely close! It has a bit of the drums for "Battle hymn" too. Didn't know there was a precursor to that Maiden font either. Good work, Mali!

I always thought Maiden (Harris) nicked the logo off this...

Listen to these both from the 51 second mark

I like Horrendous but this is an outright rip-off.

Quite similar, yes. The Carcass track is better, too.

I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but the opening riffs of these two songs are very similar. I don't think it's necessarily a rip off, but Halford's is essentially just a slower version.

They're similar, but not uncomfortably so.

Both albums are great though.

Hah. I remember an old doom/death metal band from the mid 90's called Neolithic playing a melody that sounded suspiciously like Bobby Brown's 'Humpin' Around' in one of their songs. It was even more obvious than your example.

Is there a bigger crime than ripping your own band off? I'm not talking a running thread of a particular theme, like BOLT THROWER -World Eater/Cenotaph...etc, but a completely different song on a completely different album. To wit...

Note the riff at 1:22

and the main riff here

Good songs because, well, they are the same song!! Laaazzzeeeeeeeeee
