You're all insane, Muse are fantastic (and it pains me to disagree with you, Clint). If you find them boring live then you must live in a land where three-headed strippers regularly fly past on jetpacks while sperm whales nest in the lampposts.

Well, live is a different ballpark. I just find their records strained and overreaching. Compare them to the average Mars Volta or Devin Townsend song, and they're about as epically, baroquely demented as the average cantaloupe. There is an unpleasantly strained quality to his voice as well; to do the operatic stuff you need to have a stronger, smoother voice which can go between the high and low bits without it sounding like your throat is about to give out.

You're not making many friends here, you know that don't you?

MUSE rule, the live Wembley? DVD I've seen of theirs is spectacular, and made me think mainstream progressive stadium rock is BACK! They're less wacky than Mars Volta but they write songs, so it's a kind of trade-off. His voice takes a bit of getting used to, but it's not technically strained, he hits all the notes with confidence.

...Babybird as in 'You're Gorgeous'? I'm sure they've got other songs, but having heard that one, why would anyone want to hear any more?

Yeah, I really like Muse, but can't shake a nagging feeling that they haven't totally lived up to their potential, even though that's laughable when they're selling out fucking Wembley and have a stage set bigger than Kyrgyzstan. They were great as a parallel universe Radiohead who went in completely the opposite direction to OK Computer, continued to be really entertaining while settling into a bit of a holding pattern, and then released their last album, which had way too many weak tracks. That said, they're a superb live band, and give me the same sort of warm glow that Metallica do where it's nice to occasionally have your tastes tally with an arena full of people.

I think they've become a parody of themselves and are brimming with pseudo-prog aplomb! First two albums were pretty strong though.

and..Matt B is a prick!

I like Muse, although the first one is dull as dishwater and the latest one was a bit of a letdown. Too many wannebe Queen moments for my liking. As a pop/rock group they're fantastic, just as flash as you'd want them to be.

Are the versions on COTM the same as Lifesblood or different recordings? Never picked up COTM.

The Eighties Matchbox Bline Disaster are one of the most underrated bands in the UK. They fucking rule, excellent live and they have an excellent discography.

Er... because, it's not at all indicative of his material at large? Seriously, the stuff he did before that is beautifully bleak and sad.

Also I loved muse as a child, because I was waiting for Radiohead to release something new, but I've gone off them now that they've basically turned into Queen.

And Saxon are balls. For reals.

The Eighties... were pretty big a few years back though. At least during Zane Lowe's dominance over MTV2's "Gonzo" show. They were played quite often on that (2005ish?)

Haven't they got a song on the Hot Fuzz soundtrack? Not exactly Necrosadistic Goat Torture territory.

Agreed on Eighties Matchbox, really pleasant surprise hearing that they'd returned from the dead. Album should be arriving tomorrow with any luck.
