Bugger off. Quest For Fire automatically loses it 2/5, the production's terrible but I can get over that. I just don't like the album, never did. It's the worst of the "classic" albums (up to and including Seventh Son...). I'd put it on a par with Brave new World, maybe.

Numpty.

Pride & Glory
Zakk Wylde - Book Of Shadows

I wish he would have stuck to that southern hard rock/songwriter stuff, and his natural vocal style, which is actually quite good, rather than the dull lumpen shite he's been peddling since, especially since he started using that horrible whiny Axl/Ozzy vocal style. Which brings me to my next point -

Rory Gallagher, Alice Cooper, Roxy Music, Little Feat, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Curtis Mayfield are all on the first one. The second seems less appealing IMO, although New York Dolls and Montrose are on it. I think P.I.L. and King Crimson are on the third, and John Martyn is on it, great performance.

Public Image doing "Careering" on the first one is the best musical performance I've ever seen on TV.

I really think Burzum are/is ridiculously overrated. I gave "Hvis lyset tar oss" another good few goings over on the weekend... this has been revered very widely throughout many different musical circles over the years, and I think it is really crap in a lot of ways. I do not get it (and no; it's not because it isn't tech metal, thanks Stat_Rad ). I like the vocals and the atmos is pulled off well enough. The riffs and the drumming and the mix all make me want to die though. I feel bad for letting everyone down but I think it is bobbar.

You are.

Yes. You deserve even less public acclaim and success than you've had.

I have only just got hold of Tejas and Deguello but El Loco is a blinding album, better than both Eliminator and Afterburner which are their biggest albums. Mind you i'm of the opinion that ZZ Top were on the downward slide from Eliminator onwards, Eliminator had some good tracks on it where as Afterburner was pretty forgettable.

I don't see the fuss with the first two albums. Perhaps it's another example of me not appreciating their significance at the time, but it just doesn't strike me as being as good as it's made out to be.
Hvis and and Filosofem on the other hand are up there with my favourites from the genre.

Genuine scores, to be honest.

I like BM in general, but I don't like many BM albums or bands. BM albums seem to come in and out of my collection with little staying power. I like them while I'm listening to them, but a lot of BM is just that, grand while it's on, but with little emotional influence on me. However, when it works...

I think the BM classics are BM classics for a reason, and it's an atmosphere and a feeling they create. For example, I'd hold up 'De Mysteriis...' as the best BM album there's ever been, and I've had Hvis... for nearly 20 years. It's just got an atmosphere, a style that many have aped, imitated and been influenced by but very few have got anywhere near close to.

I'm quite new to 'Burzum/Aske', and have Sol to thank for that as I've never loved 'Det Som...' (though I do like a fair bit of, so maybe the 4 fists is taking into account history... but I've stuck with it, so it must have something I like for me to have kept it) so never went back on further (to the first album/EP), but I don't know if context comes into it or not in that case, but there are a handful of albums that are just streets ahead of most other BM for me.

Would you give them these as fully fledged scores, or is this just in the context of Black Metal?

Hvis 5
Filosofem 5
B/A 4
Det Som 3.5
The new ones 2.5/3

Scores regardless of genre.
