So I've heard Expulsion's Certain Corpses Never Decay two days ago and it's a pretty decent compilation. Very primitive death metal with a slight evil twist in the vein of Tiamat's very early stuff with ghoulish vocals and riffs that can come off as both crawling and thrash-y.

The only Turkish band I knew was Pentagram. Had the Anatolia CD.

Yeah Pentagram are probably the most celebrated Turkish metal band. I've also had a bit of experience with death metal bands Burial Invocation & Decimation.

Old school, no frills, straight ahead death metal, nice.

There's a new EXPULSION now as well. Matt Harvey and Danny Walker from Exhumed/ Gruesome and Matt Olivo from Repulsion.

Hammerheart are reissuing Pestilence's first three albums remastered with bonus discs of demos. This pleases me as, while I've never liked the first album, Consuming Impulse and Testimony Of The Ancients are two of my favourites. I never got around to buying them on CD (I had the latter on tape and my brother had the former on vinyl), they're both long out of print and stupidly expensive secondhand, so I'll be picking these up..

Could be interesting. Personally I prefer the debut over Consuming Impulse but they're both great albums. Maybe the best as far as Dutch death metal as far as I'm concerned.

I can't abide Malleus Maleficarum TBH, just sounds like dodgy thrash to me. Testimonies... is my favourite of theirs before they lost the plot with Spheres, but CI isn't far behind.

Indeed. These reissues sound like good news.

Yep, long overdue. Surprising that Roadrunner hadn't reissued them beyond the crappy 2 for 1 deal that they had for a few bands back then, and even that is at least forty quid secondhand these days.

Testimony sounds like Mameli was focused too much on writing cool guitar leads while forgetting to come up with some actual decent riffs. :x

Land Of Tears got me into that album, nothing wrong with that riff. The only thing(s) I don't like about the album is the interludes, or the sheer amount of them at any rate. I've left them out of my copy on iTunes, they ruin the flow of the album.

Indeed. 'Twisted truth' too. Farking great, ultra-simple opening riff. 'Secrecies' and 'Presence' also.

Consuming Impulse is one of those albums, like Slowly We Rot and Beneath The Remains (or anything by Autopsy/Abscess) that sounds fucking diseased, the guitar tone could flay your skin. Pure glorious fucking filth.

Yeah I would agree with that. I'd rate them at the top of the pile above the likes of Asphyx, Sinister, Gorefest & Phlebotomized.

Could never get into Sinister or Gorefest. Was actually listening to the latter's debut some days ago but it bored the hell out of me. I like The Rack as far as Asphyx go but I was thinking of revisiting some other albums of them as well.

The second Thanatos is also pretty killer. A bit usual American sounding I suppose, but I dig it.

I don't bother with Sinister apart from Cross The Styx, and with Gorefest apart from False. Pretty much everything Asphyx have released is decent though.
