I have been in the mood for atonal blasting DM. Nile, hate eternal, origin etc. basically the more it blends into a wall of noise the better

That last Nile album was great to my ears, try the new Deeds Of Flesh as well.

Like black metal, I listen to very little of this genre apart from the standard couple of classics I already have, such as Deicide and Cannibal Corpse.

Atonal blasting sounds good, though I would veer more towards grind such as Last Days of Humanity if that's what I fancied.

Who would people list as the real five, maybe ten, must own bands of this genre? Death, Obituary, Morbid Angel?

Deicide
Entombed (first 2)
Morbid Angel

Buthen theres Grave, Incantation, Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse, Dismember and many more seminal and influencial bands...

Autopsy
Morbid Angel
Entombed
Obituary
Death
Master
Carcass
Repulsion (Yeah, yeah "grind" What-ever.)
Bolt Thrower
Dismember

Plenty of other bands with classic albums - Massacre, Unleashed, Carnage, Grave, Merciless, Winter, Slaughter, Necophagia, the first Darkthrone etc etc.

My top 10 would probably be

Entombed - Left Hand Path
Dismember - Like An Ever Flowing Stream
Morbid Angel - Alters of Madness
The Chasm - Farseeing the Paranormal Abysm
Darkthrone - Soulside Journey
Electrocution - Inside the Unreal
Messiah - Choir of Horrors
Carnage - Dark Recollections
Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
Winterwolf - Cycle of the Werewolf

Though there's a lot I've not heard that I should like Autopsy, and a lot I don't care for like Death and Deicide. I know there'll be some disagreements with some of them from some people, but they are the albums I go back to most.

In no particular order* and limiting myself to one per band:

Death: Leprosy
Entombed: Left Hand Path
Obituary: Cause Of Death
Morbid Angel: Blessed Are The Sick
Dismember: Like An Everflowing Stream
Carcass: Symphonies Of Sickness
Massacre: From Beyond
Gorefest: False
Bolt Thrower: War Master
Malevolent Creation: Retribution

*That said, Leprosy is the best DM album there's ever been. No arguments, it just is.

Lots of Master, Cancer, and more recent stuff like Bloodbath and Decrepit Birth. I wish there was more stuff like the first two Cancer, they're great for the simplistic pieces of death metal they are. I love the heavier parts off of Death shall rise, great band that should get a lot more spins.

You should check out Wales' finest, Desecration. Proper old-school grindy shit. Not a click-track nor a gravity blast in sight.

I saw them play in Cork in the mid-'90s, not bad but their albums never did it for me.
