I thought Dawn of Possession was alright. Certainly listenable and enjoyable, but no where near the 5 fists that a few banded about. I Enjoyed Here in After More, but it still didn't hold a candle to the Incantation albums I downloaded at the same time.

I take it Failures For Gods is worth getting then?

It's quite good yes.

I started to lose interest sometime after 'Unholy Cult', but they were on a roll for at least 3-4 albums between 1996-2003.

I'd still rate them, even though they seem to be putting out the same album every time.

I saw Immolation supporting Napalm Death, they seemed like they were having to put such a lot of effort in to what they were doing. They made it sound like a real slog to write and play a death metal song. Know what I mean? I've never been that bothered to check their records out, even though the idea of what they do - which is that really 'dense' death metal sound isn't it, unless I'm confusing them with someone else - sounds interesting to me.

I've never seen them live, but I can totally understand what you mean - they're certainly not a band who give a sense of effortless joy to their song-writing. Check out Failures For Gods as a good example of what they do (which is exactly what you think they do) - not essential, by any means, but worth listening to.

Never heard of it.

Father You're Not A Father is their most memorable song, for me, but I won't pretend I've kept upto date.

I've really not thought much of Immolation. I'm keeping the albums for now to revisit them, but given my limited space, they may end up culled in the long run.

I think that's a reasonable position. I was quite into them in the late 90's - I loved FFG at the time - but I wouldn't call them essential by any stretch, and there have been plenty of bands who do that super-dense thing much more effectively.

Out of all those NYDM bands, they were the best though.

I'm going to have to disagree, and say of everything I've come across so far it's Incantation by a long chalk.

I had Immolation 'Dawn Of Possession' on the other side of 'Lost Paradise' C90 which introduced me to PL. In All Honesty, Lost Paradise is the only PL album I've never owned on CD.
